We have a trip leaving for South America and have been told that we now need a Mexican Overflight permit. We got the permit, and it looks very formal with a government seal and all sorts of info in spanish, but I have never heard of such a permit being required to over fly Mexico.

Has anyone here come across this or have any information regarding this?

I posted this question on the NBAA message board as well and received an email and phone call from a gentleman with a handling company in Mexico.

The short version is that this is a scam. The company that we use for overflight permits uses ICCS for landing permits and it's not clear where the scam begins...if it's with our permiting company or ICCS, but in any event, it's not a valid charge or permit.

If anyone has any questions regarding this I would suggest you contact the same gentleman that contacted me to confirm what I was told.

Just thought I'd pass this along.

Here is the company that I spoke to in Mexico.

Thanks for the info. By the way how much did you get charged for this"over flight permit" if you don't mind me asking ?

The permit was a couple hundred dollars, not a huge expense but when I inquired about it's authenticity with other companies in Mexico it was brought to my attention that this is not a required permit.

Funny thing is that the company that issues the permit has it posted on their website and isn't shy about advertising about it, and they are a huge company.
