i've only flown the erj, never even been in a crj.. does a challenger count?
i do have a friend who has flown both, and says he likes the crj better. when asked why, his response is always to the effect that it's more of a challenge than the erj, whatever that means.

I have flown both and the ERJ wins hands down, and here are some of my reasons:

FADEC engines.
Auto Anti-Icing systems.
Better PFD.
Easier to get into the pilots seats if you are over 5'9".
F/A has own temp. controller (It may not work well, but they don't know that).

It has some draw backs though:

Stupid control wheel.
CRJ seems to be built better.

Mayday

you say, better PFD in the erj... i'm curious, what makes it better? do you mean, better software, or just better, clearer display? or, are you referring to more information being presented on it? just curious.

a guy i flew with, in a former life was a software engineer for one of those avionics companies (honeywell, rockwell, something like that) and he was complaining about the glass in the erj, specifically how, in his opinion, the PFD is too cluttered. he says that it should have a lot less pictures on it.

being that this is the only glass i've flown, i don't really have any basis for comparison. anybody flown the erj as well as other glass-equipped cockpits, and can distinguish a difference?

they do the same job, the ladies like them for different reasons though. The CRJ is fatter. But he ERJ is longer. So it comes down to what the individual likes.

FWIW...the CRJ-700/900 has FADEC engines

I flew the CRJ for 2 years and now I'm down here in Houston flying the Brasilia. I see ExpressJet's ERJs all of the time. They look pretty cool but from a purely aesthetic standpoint I think the CRJ looks a lot nicer than the Brasilia Jet. Actually I'd like to fly one and take it for a spin if I had the chance.

Whichever one pays more and provides the most time off is the one I want to fly.
I have only flown the CRJ, its a good aircraft with some quirks, but I suppose all aircraft could be accussed of that.

I would fly a 172 if it paid more and had more days off then a crj, who really cares what the a/c is, its all QOL outside the job for me.
