There is chatter on other message boards that ERJ has been invited into the negotiations with ACAI along with Boeing and Airbus. This signals that ACAI is taking the possible purchase of EMB 170's by Chautauqua as a real threat to their IAD monopoly.

ACAI is looking at 757's parked in the desert for possible long haul use. If they could pick these up for a reasonable number, this would free up money to purchase some EMB170/190 a/c to compete with UAL out of IAD. I also believe that the possibility exists that half the CRJ's could be put up for sale to make room for more EMB's if necessary. Anyone think they may fetch a good price, and who would the buyers be?

Actually, I heard the same thing when I was at headquarters last month due to the desert 757 pricetag being so low.

dont think so, the delivery schedule for the 190 is too far out, the whole point of going fast with the startup is to keep the other lcc's from getting into dulles...

and where are chit-aukwa going to park all of these marvelous e-170 superliners?

There is no "source." Most of these message board threads (apart from the "polls") begin with someone at home in front of their computer with one hand down their pajamas wondering "Hmmm, what kind of rumour can I start tonight?"

Good point on the 190's.

Do you think maybe the 170's are an option with an early 2004 delivery? How bout the 175's with an 8/04 delivery? That's a 78 & 86 seat combo that just might fit.

<and where are chit-aukwa going to park all these marvelous e-170 superliners?>

Well, I heard tell that UAL has quite a few mainline gates at IAD. Is that true? Now let's suppose that they will have to actually reduce the hub at IAD by 1/3 to satisfy the Feds for a loan guaranty. Now you may still have quite a few mainline flights left on a/c that are on quite large and unprofitable. How bout outsourcing some of those flights, along with adding new routes to many of the cities that were previously flown by ACAI to chit-aukwa at dirt cheap block hour rentals. Sounds like a plan to me. What do you think, ace?

hey, sounds good to me!
you guys can have fun dealing with the Untied way of doing business. i know we will have competition, but Untied is not out of the woods yet. they obviously need a new feed at dulles and its just sad to see it go to purely the lowest bidder. but what are you guys going to do when all of the gates in dulles open up in the c/d terminal due to Untieds demise. real estate ain't cheap in Dulles.

good point though, the 170 can use normal jet bridges, but in the past Untied has been very reluctant to let SJP use the coveted "mainline" gate space.

good luck and i hope it works out for you.

"ace" signing off
