Lawsuit depositions against ERAU CAPT Program begin late Jan.

It has been 17 months since ERAU CAPT Program has started training. They have had 8 grads, 2 interviews, and 0 jobs. Yet have collected more than 4 million dollars in tuition.

not surprised...

a super expensive program, blatantly advertising "one year, one career" or something like that - go from zero time to ATP in less than 12 months and get hired...

I guess I really feel bad for the folks who enrolled - no doubt on ERAU's name and reputation - and are now sandled with enormous loans, and with probably little prospect of a job (they don't even get a CFI rating in this program).

hopefully the misfortune of a few will prevent many others from the same mistakes.

8 grads and $ 4million + in tuition?.

What am I missing here?. How many washed or dropped out?

8 GRADS... probably does not reflect tuition collected from the current student base..
That is what logical reasoning would illustrate... I just didn't get that when I read the original poster's message. He (or she) worded this as if he was strictly relating to this "CAPT" program.

I think much more is involved in this than meets the eye. I have somewhat of a hard time buying into the notion that ERAU considering the reputation that they have is just taking these students money and running and leaving them high and dry?.

I don't like the program, the idea, but I do question the "why" behind this apparent problem that these folks are facing.

Of all places and institutions I would think ERAU would be the last to want to tarnish a pretty strong reputation that they have throughout the industry present day.

I did mean just the CAPT program. They are nearly 5 months behind in graduating students taking 16 instead of the advertised 10-12, they have 50 (CAPT Stuents) X $80K( all paid up front) = $ 4 Million. Simple math.

It just takes a few to prove there's no shortcut in this industry. Especially in these times. Best wishes to them though. I feel bad enough with my own loans which were probably half of theirs and at least I got the ratings to boot. Is ERAU hurting that much as far as enrollments that they resort to this type of program?

Riddle semi-P-F-T

I don't mean to say "I told you so," but therein lies one head of the three-headed P-F-T monster: Ripoff, fraud and broken promises.

This bothers me from the standpoint that ERAU gave me my first job in aviation and my best job. Perhaps "hallowed" is too dramatic a word, but Riddle is still a respected (to some) aviation university and has been a great institution. "The Harvard of the Air." Perhaps overstated. Just the same, ERAU offering C(R)APT almost seems like Harvard offering P-F-T.

Hopefully, the legal system will do its job and award relief.

Probably, it was a sell-it-first-make-it-work-later approach.

Think of how many advance deposits have been taken on kitplanes over the years. The manufacturer so strongly WANTS to believe that they can deliver the new 'miracle' aircraft that they make promises that they can't keep.

It's kind of like the mind of an embezzler - you 'borrow' money from someone thinking you can pay it back later and no one will notice.

I'm sure the ERAU administration THOUGHT that they could sell this deal.

Here is the sequence of events that seems likely to me:

1) "Great Idea" is formed to create high-profit fast-track to airlines. Schoil gets rich, student gets job - everyone wins. "And besides', someone says, " that's how they do it in Europe! Whay not us?"

2) Regional airlines are approached, but they will not sign on until they see a working program. Classic catch-22. I do not want to build it unless you are gonna buy it. You don't want to commit until you test-drive it.

3) ERAU decides to punt. Problem is, they do it with the STUDENT's money. MAke a lot of promises they truly intend to keep.

4) Getting close to the first wave of grads - no takers!!! Now what??!

5) Keep it going - just like a gambler who is down. Keep the illusion alive, otherwise you will need to admit that it was an INCREDIBLY STUPID idea. MAybe we'll get a carrier to bite on this deal.

6) Secret call is made ti GIA. They're interested, but you gotta fork over another $18K. Much sweating occurs.

7) The Awful Truth begins the inevitable process of leaking out.

8) It sounds like we'll find out soon.

Any links to a credible source about this? Not that I doubt it in the slightest., But I'd like to show some friends that were looking at the program some proof!
