The thread about two CFIs with an engine failure on takeoff led me to another thing to think about. Engine failure in a single during shortfield or any takeoff.
Someone once told me to think about the performance characteristics of Vy engine failure. I came up with a way to demonstrate it: have a student pitch for Vx or Vy at alltitude and chop the power at 50' above a specific altitude and see how long it takes them to react and whether the plane fall through this altitude. Unless the student pitches down to prevent a stall they usually will.
