Is it standard procedure for airports to charge you a flat rate anywhere from $100-250 a year for employee parking at an airport. Seems pretty steep to me, but Not many alternatives. Any ideas?

That is a good deal. Most major airports charge 30-40 a month. I'm paying 40 a month.

wa, wa, what?!?!

You fools actually pay for employee parking at the airport?!? Which airport is this so I know never to work there? Doesn't your SIDA badge let you into parking?

Fools?

Some company's will only pay for employee parking at the crew base. If you commute, you have to pay for parking at your hometown airport out of your own pocket.

Use our SIDA Badges to get into parking? Since when do we get SIDA badges as pilots?

My airline does not pay for parking.

I pay $32 at SEA (commuter airport)

I pay $30, soon to be $48 1 Jan at OAK (Domicile).

Oakland charges flightcrews a lot more than ground ops. Says our cars are there longer.

so what else does everybody pay? $300 per year in nashville for commuters. used to be about half that until this past oct. i guess it's still a pretty good deal from what it sounds like...

TR4A, I take it you fly for SWA, they don't provide free parking at your crew base? If so, no disrespect to you or your work group, but I think that its real cheap if your (or any other airline) airline doesn't provide parking at your crew base.

I'm based in SYR and park in the employee lot, which most of the time can be accessed by anyone because the gate is always broke. Our pilot contract has provisions that say the company has to provide parking. However, the company will not (and I agree) provide parking from where you commute from, if you do commute.

Call me crazy but I think things are way out of wack when you must pay to park where you work.

Also - mentioned above about flt crews being charged more to park due to cars being there longer, thats crapola. I wonder if that could be a case for some kind of worker discrimination. I bet the time a flt crew car and a regular airport workers car is in the lot is about equal over time.

Yes. It is our weak union. In OAK our former domicile rep got the company to subsidize the parking to match the rampers from $42 to 30. Now OAK is raising rates again to $32 for ground ops and $60 for flightcrew - $12 subsidy = $48.

Yes I think it is discrimination.

We have guys that have RV's out there and they were charging them $110/mo. As of 1 Jan the rate will go to $285/mo.

I've had SIDA badges for DFW, ORD and MDW, all of which allowed free parking in the employee lot.

Watch it LearLove, the last time I made a less than flattering post about SWA, I was ridiculed and insulted for days to come.
I am glad to hear TR4A who apparently works for SWA, agree with you.

ACA pays for employee parking passes at IAD, and I presume ORD as well. Not sure about the outstations. Employee parking at IAD is done by an IAD parking pass, and it is a joke. The employee lot is unmonitored and uncontrolled. That's right, you can drive up and park and nobody's going to be the wiser. MWAA MIGHT patrol the lot and check passes, but if you're parked in the crowded areas, I wonder how likely it is that they would catch you.

MCO allows any commuters to park in a secure, landscaped employee lot with really good bus service and guys patrolling the lot in golf carts offering jump starts and car locator service (for hottie FAs) for just $34 a month. Not a bad deal for a major airport. Just go to the landside office, upstairs on A side, show your badge & pay up. They are glad to see you!

Some airports (like ORF) will not let commuters park at all, forcing deals with hotels and spotty van service.

So, if you are a commuter with a low fee or good service, consider yourself lucky!

Uh, most airports wont let you past security without one. Just about every concourse door (away from C) and all parking lots in ATL have a swipe machine for entry.

Not sure what your talking about? Not all airports offer SIDA badges to crew.

I commute from the A-T-L, and have a SIDA badge (due to a really cool station manager) that allows me to park in the ATL employee lot for $55.00/month (ripoff). The bus takes you straight to the concourse, and drops you on the ramp. I have found it to be much more pleasant, however, to park in Preflight Airport parking (as an airline employee you park for half price ($3.25/day)), then ride a nice, clean, well maintained bus to the terminal, then swipe my way into the turnstile entrance.

Preflight has locations throughout the US. www.preflightparking.com

Commuters

Hey guys

I thought I would chime in too. I commute to DFW from ATL and I have parked my car at the hotel and jump on the shuttle bus. I just make sure not to be demanding and I tip one or two bucks. I have had no trouble for one year and counting. PM me and I will tell you which one if you need to do the same. 24hr shuttle too
