Has anyone heard how the Emergency Landing at DFW turned out last Thursday? I heard the crew declair an emergency with Ft. Worth center and wanted to return to DFW. I believe they had a hydraulic failure.

You're talking about that ugly caca paint Lear60?
 
We were pushing back out of D and saw the Lear between the runways on the West side, surrounded by ARFF. From the angle it was tough to tell, but it appeared to be nosewheel in the dirt, intact, perhaps overrunning a high-speed. The crew was on the radio thanking all involved for a successful recovery.

The weather was STRONG gusting winds from about 290. I'm surprised they didn't go for RWY 31, although 31 is not as long as 36L and 36R.

I don't know Lear systems, but aren't the hydraulics gear and brakes only? No boosted controls?
 
The caca color clued me in. I called my friend who happens to fly caca colored Lears to see if he knew if it was one in his company. Well fellars, here is the scoop. It was his company and darned if it wasn't him. Gorilla, how did you pass your flight physical? I think you need to get your eyes checked. He sent me pictures of the aftermath. The nose wheel is three feet to the right of center line. The skid mark from the left main proves that it stopped on the runway. Lone Star 31a, yes it was a hydraulic failure. When it was over the inspection showed that a line had ruptured. Eventually, the pressure dropped burning out one pump then finally the other pump. All that was left was the aux pump and nitrogen for stopping. He told me the had all three tank of fuel full. That's a long time to hold before getting down to a light weight to land. He told me that the toughest thing to deal with was the 25 + knot cross winds that day. I used to fly with him at FlexJet a few years back. He knows the Lear 60 pretty well. Better than I ever did. So fellars, keep your speculations to yourself until you get the facts. He did good and kept it on the runway. The pictures prove it.

If it was a total HYD failure and they were not able to get any flap deflection..you'd want the longest piece of pavement you could find.

If they were topped off their weight was easily over 23000 lbs. That equates to a Flap 40 ref of 145 to 150 kts. Ref at max lnd wt of 19500 is 139, btw.

A zero-flap landing corrected ref at that high weight would have been pretty close to 180 kts or a bit more.

HYD brakes and gear. Conventional cable operated flight controls.

Glad to hear those guys made it out ok, btw. There's been enough crashes in news lately.
