Is logbook pro the best electronic logbook?

Has anyone simply made a small database and kept the information in there, writing reports for yourself when you need them?

Is that less "official" than logbook pro?

Every time I want to apply for a job you need your hous listed in some new and strange format and its getting to be a pain! Does logbook pro total up hours and do a custom report pretty easily?

Yeah, there's nothing else that touches it in power, flexibility, and you can get your data out of Logbook Pro in any and every way possible that meets any application or form you'll need! It's quite amazing!

I just read today that they teamed up with Airlinelogbook.net with their killer Palm logbook! This pair is untouchable, I have both and have been waiting for this to occur for years! They did it, finally! ahhh!

Try Logbook Pro as long as you want, they don't even time it out, just limit you to 50 entries. They just released a complete free video series (on http://www.logbookpro.com) so you can see what it does as Mr. Culiner talks you through every element! They put out kewl newsletters which are very informative and clearly shows their interest and dedication to their product. They just released the April monthly newsletter. I didn't even realize the gadget they mentioned even existed, way kewl!

Ralph,

Logbook Pro is advertised and promoted heavily on this website. There are however, other electronic logbook programs. AeroLog Pro and Flight Level are two that come to mind. Both are fine products and both are compatible with airlinelogbook.com, which is also a fine product. It soon will be available for Pocket PC uses, though now is only available for Palm OS.

I know of many pilots who have created their own electronic logbooks using MS Excel. In fact, I think that's what most, if not all, electronic logbooks are...Excel spreadsheets. So, if you are savvy, you can create your own logbook to suit your own needs, with whatever filters you choose for tabulating your data.

I use logbook pro and I'm pretty happy with it. There are lots of handy features, most of which I still don't know how to use. I also like the fact that the program is updated on a regular basis at no cost to users.
Of course, my "official" logbook is the Jepp hardcover, but the computer logbook helps me make sure all figures are correct and serves as a backup in case I lose my Jepp. I also love that it will do your 8710 times. That alone is worth the cost of the program.
I strongly recommend this program.

I made a large database and keep the information in there. It's not any more or less "official" than Logbook Pro.

My personal electronic logbook project started about 10 years ago. Out of curiosity, I look at those that have demo downloads. If I hadn't been working on mine so long, and didn't have the inclination to build it myself, the one I'd probably buy is Logbook Pro. Definitely has the flexibility that you want.

Personal Electronic Logbook

Ralph,

Several years ago, I made my own flying hours database (aka an electronic logbook) using MS ACCESS to cross check my logbook (looking at the files in my copy of Logbook Pro, I think it uses MS ACCESS). It worked OK for keeping the data but the reporting capablities were somewhat lacking and didn't look as nice as the commercially available software. I didn't have the time or inclination at that time to perfect it. I know some people that used MS EXCEL as their electronic logbook and they took it to their interviews (and hired by Southwest Airlines and JetBlue). I decided to buy an electronic logbook and decided on Logbook Pro because of capability and price. Since buying this program, I've found that the software support by Neal C. is outstanding. I tried three other excellent logbook programs and liked Logbook Pro the best. Do a search on this forum. There are some freeware products, too.

Bottom line...it doesn't matter if you buy one or make your own as long as it's presentable, accurate, and serves your purpose. I found that each company likes your flight hours sliced and diced differently. You're right. It is a pain! Having the data stored electronically makes it very easy. Inputting the data when you have 700 hours is much easier than inputting it when you have 4,000 hours! My advice to you is to do it soon. Take care.

Hey, out of curiousity.....I have a interview with Comair this month. I have been looking at the "electronic logbook" for sometime now. Should I switch now or wait? I want things to look nice, and they do. But when you go to interivew when using a "electronic logbook" do you need to take a hard copy as well? I hear of people using their electronic at Jetblue and Southwest. Did they take a hard copy also, or just print out all of their electronic version and this will suffice. My main thing is I lost my first logbook and had to use reciepts from flight training (which I still have) to rebuild a "new logbook" so there is a missing link with my logbooks. Do you think I could get rid of the problem with the electronic version? Thanks

It may be the best, but $69+ dollars is way to steep. Should be sold around 40 dollars.
Personally, cant justify the price for that product. Good luck

Buddro,

I've used Aerolog for about ten years now. I've printed out a hard copy logbook that I've used in several interviews. All interviewers who have scanned it made positve comments.

In addition to bringing a hardcopy of my electronic logbook I brought along my military and civilian logbooks and the little red Flight Crew Logs I used to record flight time while flying Part 121.

Several interviewers flipped through the original logbooks, and for that reason I'm glad I had them with me. It's nice to be able to show where the electronic data originated.

Quoted from SentryIP:

...

I have to agree. I started using Aerolog when I had 4000+ hours. Iit was a pain to record all that data. Whatever program you choose, start now!
