I am looking to start using an electronic log book. Something that would work on my laptop to record all my flight time and such and be able to pull out all the different categories of flight time.

I would appreciate any reviews or recomendations of products anyone has tried.

I beleive many will speak against this but I have well over 700 entries in it and I have never had one problem with it. Very similar in presentation to a jep logbook, and you can pull up virtually any type of report.

If you wanna know how much solo - night - complex - actual - cross country you have its pretty easy to find out with a few clicks :)

Theres a trial version of it that allows you to make about 50 entries or so before you have to buy it. Give it a shot
 
I would have to agree with Flysher, I have about 2500hrs in logbook pro and I just did my ATP and it was very easy to breakdown the hours. Very easy to use and they are always updating it. Great Program, worth the money to me.
 
3200 hours in Logbook pro. During my interviews, the HR AND line pilots seemed to really like the neatness and professional look of my logbook.

I print mine on the exact same color as Jepp paper, size is 8.5X11 and keep it in a leather commercial check binder.

I can tell you how many night, solo, complex, instrument, hours in every tail number I have ever flown. Usless info, but fun to see!!

Also, keeps track of expenses and flight costs (I have burned $3,457,432.34 worth of fuel!!) I also use Airline Pilot's daily logbook in conjuction with Logbook pro. It keeps track of duty time, rest requirements, pay and conus for per diem carculations come tax time)
 
The reason I ask is because I am interested in buying this and plan to start on my com. ticket soon. Does it have a section for endorsements/signoffs?

In your paper logbook. Anticipate for the time being that your e-logbook will need to be backed up by paper records (or vice versa, depending on your point of view) and that the electronic log is a and presentation tool rather than the "real" record.

The FAA has come up with one advisory on electronic record keeping.

I don't know of any commercially available pilot logbook that meets the requirements.

YES. I believe thay have a new "blank" or preprinted endosement page you can print out for instructors/DE's to sign.

I started on the old jepp small logbook for 600 or so hours before using LP, so I still have to take that to interviews, although I am thinking about cutting it out and pasting it into my LP logbook.

I actually went back and entered my first 600 hours into LP never made another written entry. Some people are nervous about having NO paper logbook, but I havn't had any negative reaction at all. The FAA doesn't CARE how you keep a logbook and I DO have the paper printout anyway.

I download my entire monthly schedule into airline pilot's daily logbook, and I just tap the block times in/out as I fly them and I'm done. This software is REALLY great and keeps my Duty/rest time in compliance with the regs and our company contract. It has paid for itself 20 times over since it audits my pay and I have found mistakes many times on payroll. I simply print out a report and fax it to payroll and they correct it!! I sync it with LP once a month.

Sheesh!! sounds like I work for them!!
 
I have always wanted to start an electronic log book for all the reasons you guys have said but I was wondering how you get caught up if you haven't been keeping one so far. I have almost 3000 hours and I don't want to have to spend the next 4 months entering times into my e-logbook. Does it provide a way for you to enter bulk numbers to get caught up?

another question...i am an airline guy also...do i need logbook pro and the apdl or just one or the other? also which one has the free trial on the website?
 
You could input bulk numbers starting with 3001 hours but you would lose a little capability of the program. Meaning you couldn't print out an instant 8710 sec 3, or print out A/C reports, but if that isn't important to you then it is no big deal.

After looking back, I discovered it was at 1000 hours when I went back and entered all my data. It really didn't take too much time though, because of all the pull down menu's and ease of entry. If you like to keep alot of notes though it will take a while. My wife read off the data and I entered it. It took about 10-15 seconds per entry, so that may help you figure out if you want to bother.

Both logbook pro and APDL are free downloads and can be tried out. They limit your total entries to 50 lines I believe. You can use logbook pro stand-alone with your Palm/PC device, but it has limited entry capability. If ALL you want is AC#, type, in/out/off/on times, landings, approaches, and notes LP will work fine. If you want to download shedules into your palm/pc and keep track of rigs, pay, rest, duty times, airport info, hotel info, then you need APDL to sync with logbook pro.

Logbook pro BOUGHT APDL last year. You get a discount if you purchase them at the same time. Give Neal a shout at logbook pro. I think they may be releasing a combination product in the near future, but I am not sure.

Hey I was thinking about going through with this. I'm still a fairly poor CFI so it's going to be a big deal to get this sorted out. I'm still curious about the endorsments. They claim they have some sort of sticker system to get the endorsements down but if I cut them out then it will cover the endorsements on the back part of the page.

I agree that its all about presentation during the interview. My paper n' pen logbook is messy but I guess I'm going to have to bring it in along with the logbookpro stuff when i get it.

Has anyone gone through this how easy is it to print out the records the paper is pricey! I dont want to have to print it out a couple of times...
 
I bought a ream of 8.5x11 green 60# stock EXACTLY the same color as Jepp from a paper store. I then bought a leather commercial 7 ring check binder ($25) and took them both to a Kinko's. They drilled the paper to match the binder and now I have 500 sheets of logbook paper to use for less than 10 bucks. Looks great!! Burgandy binder with gold rings and green paper!!

And yes you WILL blow through a lot of paper the first time you print it to get it just right. After you figure it out it is easy, just hard to set up the first time. My only mistake was not to use a laser printer. Bubble jets don't do it justice. But I will probably reprint it in the next year or so.

The LP leather binders are WAY too expensive along with their custom paper.
