Has anyone used EFB's before. If so, how are they? Are they easy to use and easy to see in different light condition. How reliable are they? We are supposedly getting them this summer.

I think he's talking about SkyWest. We're suppose to get them this year.

Wow

Well, what's been the past practice out there in St. G?
At ASA I've completely lost track of all of the things they've told us "we're getting and day now." We actually have a whole department dedicated to coming up with new ideas/toys like that. As far as I can tell it'd be just as effective to get a large metal trash can, fill it with cash and torch it!
If you guys actually get it perhaps we can fire more people in ATL and just use your toy department. Please keep us posted.

:uzi: ASA Management:smash: : a waste of perfectly good office space!

The rumor I heard was that Skywest was getting the EFB's primarily as a cost savings measure. I guess they finally worked out a deal with Jeppesen.

For the ASA guys, since Skywest Inc. is performing their "best practices" comparison initiative, I would bet that sometime in the future ASA would then have to look into those same savings. (Of course it'll probably take years). The other rumor I heard was that Skywest's EFB's are not compatible with ASA's ACARS that are being installed. Figures, but maybe they can work something out. I would love to ditch that 40lb backbreaker.

I worked at Jeppesen for a number of years in Electronic Flight Services before taking my vows of poverty. I have flown with them before, and I'm here to tell you that EFBs are the cat's meow. I'm very much looking forward to it at SkyWest, and hope we really do get it this summer.

Ya Cats meow until Jepp decides to change the program without notice to the users and give me fits for days. I actually had to have them come to our operation to show us how it works. I think it is not very user friendly and not easy to read in many situations.

I personal like paper and hate the EFB's

Bandit,

Just out of curiosity, how many Jepp binders do you carry and how thick is each one? Also, how often are you asked to switch aircraft and/or concourses during your average work day? Last time I weighed my flight kit is was a hair under 40 lbs.

I don't know if the charts are going to be Jeppesen's "JeppView." I heard they were going to be coming from another vendor.

Qx Efb

Horizon is supposed to be getting the EFB this year. It supposed to have datalink weather, tamdar(?), and out/off/on/in reporting, and the ability to store flight data for FOQA.

Of course, I'll believe it when I see it but they did buy us all that Cat III stuff.
