How did Mr. Fossett do it without exceeding established duty time?

Quote from AIN Alerts (reprinted without permission)
Fossett Drained but Triumphant
[font=Times New Roman, Times, serif]Millionaire/aviation adventurer Steve Fossett has made history again, successfully landing the globe-girdling Virgin Atlantic GlobalFlyer at 1:49 p.m. CT today at Salina Airport, Kan., completing a solo, nonstop, non-refueled around-the-world flight in 67 hours 2 minutes 38 seconds. The single-engine Williams-powered turbofan took of from the same Kansas airport on Monday evening. A problem with the airplane’s fuel system nearly caused Fossett to end the flight in Hawaii yesterday, but strong tailwinds worked in his favor, salvaging the record attempt. Fossett’s other achievements include being the first to fly solo around the globe in a balloon (in 2002) and dozens of other aviation and sailing records. The first nonstop around-the-world, non-refueled flight was made in 1986 by Jeana Yeager and Dick Rutan in the Voyager. Dick Rutan’s brother, Burt, is the designer of the GlobalFlyer, Voyager and SpaceShipOne, in addition to several general aviation aircraft.
end quote

(For those that don't recognize it, my opening line is purely satirical.)

Quite a feat by any measure. Landing smoothly after such a long flight... whew!

The big danger now is that operators will wonder why we cant do that if he can and start lobbying for a 68 hour duty day.
