ok, so here I go.
9 years ago I made a mistake, I hade three beers with a friend and got pulled by a state trooper. and this was before i had a pilots license,
I paid the fine, I did the community service, I paid the insurance for three years, I've hade to deal with the record, the points, and courts. and every thing else that gos along with it.( Don't get pulled In N.C.)
Just so I can get shot down in a interview. evey thing was going great, and then the "Have You Ever Had A DUI" hits. So i told the truth...........When will I stop paying for the Mistake that I made?
Is all I have to look forward to is MOm and Pop operations that treat you like crap.
I know A guy that got picket up by a well establish fractional three years ago, when every thing was going gang buster, with 2 convictions.
What can I do? Or am I just SOL?

You keep pressing. You accept some of the rejection that will occur. Persistence will eventually pay off. NDRs go back 10 years. Some companies don't ask "have you ever?". Some do. The ones that do, will be tougher nuts to crack. I know people with DUIs on their records that aren't weren't as old as yours who have been hired not so long ago.
...Or you could quit.

Always enjoy the wisdom in your posts, Hugh. You give us "not-so-perfect" folks a little much needed inspiration from time to time!:D

Agreed, but it won't be long before a "holier-than-thou" type comes along and tells him/her to suck it up and just accept the consequences of his/her 3-beer transgression.

Public Intoxication

I have a related question:
I have two Public Intoxication arrests. One in '95 that was dismissed and the other in 2001 that I paid a 25 dollar fine for. I haven't interviewed with anyone yet, but I'm have resumes out and would like to think that I'll get called eventually. Neither offense involved driving. In fact, the second arrest occured as I was waiting for a taxi.
What can I expect in an interview. I know to relate all of the lessons that I learned in these incidents. I actually don't know if anyone can find these in my record since they aren't in a driving record and I've been told they aren't on a statewide or national database. A company would have to go to the municipality to find the info.
I guess the real question that I have is am I screwed or not?
Thanks.

I have a friend who is just a civilian now that flew in the military with a DUI. Learn to accept rejection at first and be able to expalin your mistake. For some reason I find myself always posting on these threads explaining my friends mistake. Hugh Jordan 's posts have always been a big motivator to my friend.

It can happen. I have a friend who had a DUI about 5 years ago before he started flying. He just got hired at a regional. Keep trying!!!

Was it your buddy that Pinnacle took a pass on? Where did he get hired?

Peace out dogg!

Yea, it's always "3 beers."

I HATE FREIGHT!

Hugh Jorgan is right, even though a DUI is bad news there is still hope, just tougher. I have seen pilots hired recently into hard to get jobs while being honest about DUI.
