Our company is flying Gulstream to Dubai next week!

What do we need to take care off and what are the things what can get you there!

Operational differences, restricted areas, No fly zones, handling?

Any specific procedures enroute?

Thanks from all the input?

....

Who are you using for handling?

I have flown into Dubai a few dozen times or so, and we used UAS for handling. It has been a few weeks, so I cannot remember the name of the FBO we parked at, whatever the large one on the field is. (I think it was Jet Aviation now that I think about it). They can take care of all your ground handling needs, i.e catering, customs, printing out stuff, the usual, etc.

Nothing unusual really about anything you might encounter, at least from our trips. Just like flying into any other large international airport as far as the procedures go. No real "gotcha's" I can think of, maybe someone else knows one.

Just don't switch onto ground control freq. after exiting the runway unless the tower specifically tells you to do so!...I was yelled at big time because I nonchalantly swapped over to gnd. after clearing, and ended up on a wrong frequency, then ended up clogging a taxiway up as we switch back to tower to figure out what the heck is going on. Ended up clearing off the wrong side, thinking we were going towards the Jet Aviation building, nope....come to think of it, I did the same thing in Geneva and got a spanking as well...

I've learned that these airports outside the US don't operate like Charlotte would and should be treated accordingly!

I believe they have an approach ban similar to the UK. That is pretty common throughout the ME.

A big giant +1,000,000,000 to UAS.

If you are going ANYWHERE in the ME, then UAS should be your handler of choice.

They take care of everything... for a price.

Flying for an airline I dont deal with that aspect much, so should shut up, but definitely agree with the previous posts to use a good handler....Euro control and the middle East can be a real hassle if you dont have all the permits and everything filed correctly. Other than that it is fairly standard International flight and you should enjoy the overnight

....

Although UAS worked well the majority of the time, we did have several instances where they either filed something incorrectly, or just plain forgot to get overflight permits for Syria or whoever, so that sort of pissed us off 4 or 5 times and created a delay here and there. They would then sort of make it up to us by not charging us anything for the service for that particular flight(s).

I second the Euro control being a slight hassle. I still don't have a totally clear understanding of how it all works, but they didn't seem to be flexible on letting you go early, etc. And then we would have the occassion where the FBO guy in Europe says "so you wanna leave 30 min;s early, well just let me go put something on file with Euro control and we can bump you up a bit....?..."...huh?....so who knows.....

I've spent the past eight years dealing with Eurocntl, albeit in military jets. EVERYTHING has to go thru Brussels. If you have a departure slot time, its -5/+10 minutes. Miss that and who knows when you can try again. So letting FBO/tower know about changes earliest is key. When I've wanted an early departure, they've wanted me to be ready to go, i.e. in the seats, strapped in, upon request. Mind you, it takes a while to get the glorious Lockheed Galaxy from starting checklists to wheels up, so your results may vary.

Yea, I remember about the time allowance, not a whole lot, eh?.....I never missed a slot, so I never had to deal with whatever happened if you were to call up late......

I never sat in on an Intl. Procedures course through Simuflite or Flight Safety.....Do they cover that sort of thing (i.e Eurocontrol, how to use it, etc etc) in those courses?

I just ended up gathering all my knowledge through screwing everything up at least once. Now everything runs fairly well!!......

So once that FBO guy from TAG runs off with my desire to leave 45 minutes early, what does he do with that??....Contact EuroCntl directly?...

i would suggest you check on and recieve overflight permits. Expecially if you are to transit any area of the midde east.

I would also get a copy of Text Frankfurt to check on any differences from ICAO. Every country has differences if only app/dep procedures, Transitional altitudes, descent altitude etc.
