I am starting class at ExpressJet on Monday, and was curious about two dress code issues. First, on the first day of class, did most people stick to the polo and khakis business casual, or was shirt/tie/suit the order of the day? Also, for the oral/checkride/etc., I will of course wear a tie, but is a coat recommended as well to complete the suit? Trying to figure out what I should bring down to Houston.

Thanks!

Class attire is business casual -- khakis with a button down shirt or polo. Some wore a tie on the first day, but it's not necessary. It'll be a long day and you'll get fitted for uniforms so dress comfortably. On Fridays you can wear jeans and sneakers with a buttoned shirt.

For the oral and checkride, wear a tie out of respect for the examiner. He'll usually tell you to take it off as soon as you start but they like the extra touch. Some wore their suits but I don't think it's really necessary. On my checkride I wore khakis with a white dress shirt and tie.

Thanks! Nice avatar BTW.

Congratulations dude,

You're really going to enjoy yourself down here. I wore a pair of slacks with an oxford shirt and tie the first day. Others in my class wore business casual. (Khakis/Polo) All of us graduated. Just make sure you dress up a little for the checkrides. Simple respect goes a long way with the check airman cadre.

I think you'll really like Express Jet. I'm having the time of my life here. Drop me a PM if you've got any questions at all, heck, I'll even drive over and buy you a beer.

Warmest Regards,

Matt! Congratulations. I've been reading about your progress since you were hoping for a crack at the title posting on jetcareers a couple of years back!

All the best- and Houston in August is like breathing through a wet towel.

Underwater.

Boiling water.

IAH is the coolest airport I've ever flown into... solo. :)

Thanks for the congrats. I'll have to see what I can rig up so I can study IN the pool at the hotel. :) Hopefully that might alleviate that Texas heat!

congrats - bring a few wife beaters, it was pushing 110 the other day with the heat index - It will be nice to be in a air conditioned classroom.

What's going on man? You based in IAH?

Yes I still commute. You'll like IAH, everythings flat but the women.

Unless you want to look like green newbie, dont show up for your checkride in a suit, thats a little over the top. A tie and khakis is more than adequate
