I got my first interview with a guard unit. What is the usual dress code for the interview? Is a suit considered overkill? Thanks.

I wear a suit to all my interviews. I think that anything else would not be appropriate, but that's just me. Good luck.

You can't go wrong with the suit. Dark usually works best. Most reserve/guard units are conservative so leave the disco collar and chains at home.
If you're married, bring your wife...if able. Having a nice "trophy" wife has gotten a good number of guys hired at certain units :D
But, pre-brief your spouse on answering questions in case they ask.

I saw the weirdest thing when gassing up at McEntire ANGB, SC a couple of years ago. While haning out in the Swamp Fox ops area, a dude came out of an interview with one of the Cols wearing a oversized, tan suit. He was either a high time viper guy who was already "hired" or this guys still looking for a job.
Ballsy move.

Definite Suit. Just look Sharp. Make the board say "We'd be f**king stupid not to hire this guy". If your prior military, make sure your uniform is squared away. Personality will get you the slot. Remember they just want a guy they can hit the bar/golf course with, just relax and be yourself.
Best of Luck!

I am going to tag onto this thread. If you are military from another branch of service, would you still suggest a suit or go in uniform? In which case, which uniform? Flightsuit? How bout if you visit the unit on a cross-country flight?

Definitely pop in. Wear your blue dress uniform. Thats what you wear in the Navy to new duty stations for check-in, right? Anyways, you know what I mean. Personality gets you in. Best of Luck

Eddie-
Our unit interviews in flightsuits. I'm sure others do to...especially when you're accompanied by the squadrons favorite malt liquor or "Weed. :)

Pat-
Possible de-brief dialogue between interviewers after an interview:

Interviewer1: "Well?"

Interviewer2: "He said the right things but his hours don't compete with some of the others. And, we'd have to send him to a "B" course."

Interviewer1: "Yeah...but did you see his wife???"

Interviewer2: "Oh yeah....send him an "Intent to hire" letter."

:D :D :D

For you PC/SNAPs out there...this was a JOKE!!!

Best bet is a suit if you are a civilian, and a uniform (flight suit or service working uniform) if you are military. Call the chief pilot if you have any questions. Good Luck.

Thanks for all the help. I went out and bought a couple of suits (big sale so I bought two). Now I just gotta go convince my trophy wife to come with me...

Thanks again.

Eddie- don't tell them you bought the "rack"...they're going to want to see them to make sure.

:D

Good luck to you all!

MY board we had a dude wearing a tan 3 piece suit with a little watch chain with one of those fancy watches in his vest!! Needless to say he didn't get hired...his music major wasn't really what they were looking for I guess!

You guys are starting to lose the real focus of this thread....Where are the "rack" pics of the Trophy Wives????:D
