To y'all CFIs out there, the posibility came up tonight of doing someone's BFR (would be my first yay!).

The kicker is, he owns the plane.

Normally I wouldn't care...just go to where they're at and get at it, but he doesn't have the plane at an airport yet...getting some work done on it before he hangars it

My problem is, if they come down to the airport I'll hopefully *knock on wood* be instructing at and I do their BFR in a 172...great...they'll be back up to speed in a 172, but not their plane. Not really sure if I like my signature being on something like that. Told the guy I'd have to get back to him.

Any opinions? CYA things I should know about? Input?

Thanks!

Hey mini, if the guy shows you he is ok in a 172, I'd be ok with that, whatever he wants to do in his plane is his problem. Anybody that you give a BFR to can go to another FBO rent a different airplane and screw up. So my advise is go ahead and do it, have fun!

yes'm...it was a pretty easy check ride too...I was surprised

I know its not type specific...just want to make sure he doesn't go out n kill himself and/or someone else a week after I sign off that he's proficient...eeks!

Mini...if he cant fly to your standards...do NOT sign his BFR...schedule some tune up flying at 35 an hour cash...and get him all nice and shiny...LIKE a NEWLY minted CFII,CFI...lol

haha well... I dunno about that...I just want to make sure he's safe and all...he's just a PP-ASEL/IA...I guess I should make sure he knows what/why things are happening, but...CFI level? eh...

Turns out a good friend of the in-laws...never even knew he has a plane or was a pilot until I got back from school...I guess everyone knows someone who knows someone huh?

Could turn out to be a good thing...not that Cherokee time is going to get me a gig flying twins, but total time is total time and he's big in to cross countries...he likes to go down to MYR for a round of golf and back ... that would be nice to get the logbook fat...and the wallet skinny

...anyway...thanks for the helps folks.

nosir

Still considering it...but I don't wanna "buy" the 15 PIC...if that makes sense.

I figure about 5 or 6 hours of training for the ticket? So...I've got 1 from the check ride...I need 9 more? eh...I'll hold off...not sure how I would go about getting students anyway...plus that feathering stuff kinda freaked me out...I didn't realize the prop actually STOPPED! No one told me that one! haha
