Does your FBO offer Computer Flight Planning Services? Well I am trying to talk our FBO into installing internet and a phone for flight planning. Does your Airport offer these services? Why do you think they are important?

It was my understanding that nearly every airport offers these services, and if I can get enough comments from Pilots showing a neccesity, the airport owners will install a computer with internet and phone line in the pilot's lounge.

So please comment, so I can show the owners what other pilots think.

Thank You

Where is this airport? If nobody flies out of this field then I would say you could probably get away with not having it. You should have it if you have students and transients flying in and out all day long. The internet is cheap these days. Free if you can find a wireless hotspot.

At the VERY least, there should be a telephone for calling FSS in every FBO lounge. Nowadays, I don't see why anybody wouldn't have a computer with basic internet access for pilots. You don't necessarily need a fancy WSI setup, just basic internet-enough to get duat and fltplan.com

MOST FBO's I go to have WSI. You still have to call a briefer to file though, which isn't a big deal since I always call them to check for TFR's and Notams anyway. What ever you do DO NOT GET DTN! DTN sux! It's not user friendly at all, and is really geared more towards farming than aviation.. PanAm's pretty bad too. If I go in and see a DTN or PanAm weather machine I just call the briefer and save myself the headache of trying to figure those two systems out.
