Lets just say I have a DODMERB record out there that has Asthma on it. That blew the acadamy and ROTC but I'm trying OCS now cause I guess they go through MEPS. Anyone know if they're going to find the DODMERB physical anyways and I'm just waisting my time?

Also, I know pilot selection out of OCS has never been good but does anyone know how bad it is currently?

thanks

Do you actually have asthma or was it when you were 5-10 years old. They will find that DODMERB. If the DODMERB found it, they will find it in your records. It wont hurt to try. And its free..... just go for it. Sorry about that Academy stuff and ROTC.

had a problem with it one time when I was 2 but my mom put it on my rotc application when I was in high school. Never had a problem with it since then. after the whole ROTC thing I had a test done to prove I didn't have it anymore and I guess I still do just enough for them to count it but it's never kept me from easily passing a PFT and it's allergy induced anyways so as long as nobody puts a cat in the cockpit... I heard from a few people that MEPS is a whole different thing than DODMERB and if I didn't mention it, nobody would know so that is what I was hoping.

Wizard, are you with an ROTC Det at BYU? I did 2 years with 940 at UW before they told me I couldn't contract.

Go Pokes!

Yeah, I am here at BYU 855. You didnt go to field training did you?! That would have sucked. Yeah I am a freshman here now. It is going well. I am still debating wiether or not to go civ or military. Ill be CFI in may, and so we'll just see... The whole cat/allergy induced stuff might stab you in the heart on this deal. I hear allergies are pretty negative on the med chart. Don't put it down, but if they catch it you are in trouble maybe, they do have waivers. You are just applying for the guard/reserve? What are you doing now and what are your plans for the future?

You're giving the government too much credit. You're DODMERB record was likely destroyed a long time ago. I doubt MEPS would be able to dig it up.

When I went through MEPS in the mid 80's, I told them about my asthma as a child and then explained I hadn't had a recurrence in years, and even ran track in high school.
I would be honest and tell them the background. Can't hurt at this point.
And yes, they will find it eventually. Most likely after you have undergone half your training and then you get pulled out. Just tell them and explain.

Thanks for all the advice. Just in case any of you care...I did the whole explanation thing for ROTC and they must not have needed officers very bad cause they pretty much told me there was no way I'd ever get in. That was while being 1st in my class, 3.8 GPA and a PPL with 100 hours and an 86 pilot on the AFOQT.
