It was told to me by one of my fellow pilots at work that Donald Ross well know AME in the Detroit area died last week. Doc Ross did medicals for professional pilots from all over the country. He gave me my first one back in 1979, and probably a couple dozen since then. Rumor was he was the highest volume AME in the country. He ran kind of a walk in clinic for pilots who needed to get their medicals. In a bind call Doc Ross he would work you in. He had a room for his aviation exams, covered with business cards from pilots everywhere, you could always catch up on where old friends had gone while waiting to see Doc. Ross. He retired a couple years ago with some reported health problems. Doc Ross was an institution in the Detroit area and well be surely missed.

Yeah Ft. Lauderdale lost a very popular AME last month, Frank Ceravalo. He was always very good and would almost always work you in...

He will be missed.

I got my medical from Dr. Ceravolo just a week before he died. Anyone know anybody else that is good in the FLL area.

Sorry to hear about Doc Ross--he used to give my medicals back in the 1970s. He was a real gentleman.

Doc Ross was phenomenal. When I was a struggling/new CFI, I went in to obtain a First Class Medical. He asked where I was teaching, number of students, etc. When I left, the rate for the First Class was half of what was quoted (when I scheduled the appointment).

He really cared about the pilots in the area and continued to be active in aviation -- even after he quit flying and sold his aircraft. He will be missed.
