Sorry about another silly thread but it has bothered me that I did not. Asked a mainline friend who's morals and snaughtiness I find a little unethical whom has snorted an unequivacal ... hell no.

Do you.

Watcha think.

Not sure if you are looking for opinions on the maid or your buddy.

I don't leave a tip for the maid, but I try not to leave the room a disaster either. I'll put away the iron and ironing board, place my used towels in a pile in the bathroom, turn off the lights when I leave, throw away shower soap and wrapper, and courtesy flush the toilet.

Yea I do the same. Kinda lay out the towels so they are easier to pick up / count. Put the trash bin up on the counter so they don't have to bend over etc. Put the channel changer back up on the TV.

While on a trip absolutely not... I am pretty sure the company is paying a decent price for the rooms that we stay in. I will however leave a tip while staying at Mandalay or Bellagio while on pleasure since the tables are usually good to me.:D :D

Then you owe me some money...who do you think the tables got it from?

Tips for everbody!!!

Tips for self service businesses with cashiers.....!!

Hotels new gig....... Cheap rates....self check in.....rent towels...need sheets? rent them from a vending machine!!

I leave the room messy and create jobs!

Er,

Nobody tips me, but cab drivers expect
a tip, what up with that? I don't think
I scare people on as regular a basis
as the cabbies...would have heard from
the chief pilot by now!!! What the he!!
is so different between a cab and a
jetstream???

Oh, never mind...cabs are quieter!

Naw I don't....but I claim on my taxes that I do:D :D

And if the place really pi$$es me off I leave a big MESA in the toilet and don't flush.

Depends on if the hotel pisses me off on how bad I leave a room. in Newark once, I rearranged the room for them because they were ignorant and took a hour to check me in, otherwise I leave the room fairly decent. One other thing I hate is when they lie about the where the van is and you have to call them back.

Ever heard of this. Its called Top Tanking. If they pi$$ you off bad enough just climb up onto the back of the toilet, take the cover off, squat and drop a big stinky MESA into the toilet tank. Never done it myself but I guess it makes every flush interesting:D

No tips period. Not for the van driver, hotels, nothing. They get paid very well by my company. He!!, in the end they make more money that I do. I can't justify giving away 500-600 bucks a year for nothing. Do the math yourself if you don't believe that figure. That money can be invested into my retirement and if that makes me selfish so be it.

Buddy, Its 5:30 am here in SYR and I think I just woke the whole apartment complex up laughing so hard.:D

Lear,

I hear there's snow on the way.. I'm in PIT waiting for my SYR flight. Sitting on the jump on a red eye sucks ass..

To the thread... For those that tip the maid.. Do you tip the counter girl at Mcdonalds too??

Aren't all these people doing their jobs? Is there pay lowered so they make up the difference in tips, like bartenders? NO NO NO... Why tip someone for doing their job? Do we get tips? NO...

I am even second guessing giving Van Drivers Tips. Half the time, we are standing around waiting for the van. They recieve an hourly wage by the hotels. Tips are just given as a holdover from taxi days.

Maybe we should put a sign on the back of the cockpit door that says:

B]Tips are not manditory but appreciated![/B]

I tip van drivers if they carry my bag and pick us up without too long of a wait.

I don't think I stay in a hotel long enough to tip a housekeeper. However, if the room is less than clean when I check in, I pour some baby powder on the floor before I leave (forces them to vacuum) and throw all the sheets in the shower (hard to put dirty sheets back on the bed when they're wet.)

(Yes, I use baby powder, I usually get out of the shower 5 minutes before van time and need to dry quick!)

my understanding for tipping hotel staff is reserved for extended stays. One overnight stay would not require a tip, but if you were a business traveler who spends a week in the same hotel then a tip would be proper. As an FO I only tip if the van takes me someplace besides to or from the airport on special request.

i only tip the van driver if he deserves a tip, and if i've got a buck in my wallet.. the chances of those two events happening concurrently are slim. when they do, though, i'm compelled to.
tip the hotel maid? are you kidding me? i may not drop a MESA in the toilet tank, but, then again, i don't clean the room before leaving it. my wife yells at me at home if i don't tidy the place up.. hotels are my chance to be a slob again.

what really gets under my skin is Starbucks........ a tip jar at the counter? please.

I have always tipped the van drivers. Maybe some of them did make more money than I did as a regional f/o. So what. It's two dollars (some tip more) a night, and his job sucks.

A fellow furloughedfriend of mine got a job driving for a van service. He was paid around $5 (maybe less) an hour.....needless to say tips were the only way to make ends meet. He had to quit................must have had most of you guys on his van.

It's bad enough there are so many dorks in aviation......no need to be cheap as well.

Totally agree.

I leave money for the maids if I've been there for an extended period of time (training) and they've done a nice job. I also leave a couple of bucks if I have to work on a major holiday like Christmas or Thanksgiving. Holiday Cheer, you know...some aren't as fortunate as I am.

I leave my used porn under the bed and check to see if its still there when I come back to that room, then I know if the sheets are "clean" or not.:D :D :D
