Cannot find anything to suggest that they do in the FARs. I know that once you take a test you have 2 years to checkride.

I was signed off to take my FOI & CFI exams about 3.5 yrs ago, when I completed my commercial, but never did take the exams! I'm now getting back into flying regularly and considering going for my CFI. Do I need new sign-offs?

I used to be a proctor / supervisor for our testing center at our flight school. It was the testing company's policy that we would not accept any endorsement that was greater than 2 years old. Now that was the company's policy, I'm not totally sure if that was the FAA's stance on it though...

As mayday said, you do not need any endorsement at all, let alone a new one.

How about the A&P written signoffs (from the FAA)? I got signed off for mine, but it's been a couple years...and at this rate it might be a bit longer before I really get around to taking them. I'm hoping they don't expire...that'd be a lot of work gone to waste. Although, I think if they did, I could get the same Fed to sign me off again. Just wondering...

Call a test center and ask. I have been told by an exam proctor that there is an experation date, but I don't recall how long it was.

The way I am reading it is that you need an endorsement to take the FOI written. Either way, I don't believe there is a time limit, unless noted in the endorsement.
