I've got my ATP (no restrictions), AMEL Instrument, FEw, and about 2k total hours (nearly all military). I also have some T-41 time (Cessna 172) from way back, and a few hours as a civ student.

Do I need to take a check ride and get a single engine rating in order to rent a cessna at the local airport? Some people have said yes, some no. But, it would seem odd to me if I could take a multi-engine jet and fly IMC, but couldn't rent a 152 to tool around the pattern.

A little help here is greatly appreciated.

Yes, you need the ASEL...

Just because you can fly a twin engine jet doesn't mean you aren't going to kill yourself in a Cessna 150...

Apples and Oranges...

But yes, legally you must get the ASEL to fly a 150 alone or with another pax...

Well, actually, you could fly yourself in an ASEL if you got a solo endorsement from a CFI, but no passengers. Go ahead and get signed off for and take the check ride. About the only thing you would need to practice is engine out.

I can fly a single without passengers? Where can I find that written? Not having much luck with the FARs as they're new to me.

Oh, and I am going to take a check ride to get my ASEL. Just wanting to build some proficiency prior to taking it. Also intend on getting some time with an instructor too.

Have dual and a solo endorsement from a couple years ago. Also have about 3 hours recent dual.

Will I need a NEW solo indorsement? Is there a time limit on them?

Yes. The solo endorsement needs to be renewed, and the recent dual won't change that. You can ask the person who gave you the recent dual to put you through the pre-solo paces: basic proficiency in the airplane under part 61, and a short written test on make and model is usually given. Then you can fly on your own to get ready for the ride.

If you are outside of Philly, send me a PM. I'll do some flying with you.

Hi...

DBN,

Wondering about the aircraft you have listed in your bio....

According to AC61-89E, these two aircraft have a Centerline Thrust limitation. Do you have to make adjustments in your logbook for this? Does the time count as total time for Multi-Engine privileges? Is your Multi Engine rating limited to Centerline Thrust? Just curious.

Regards

I initially did have a centerline thrust restriction - was able to get that removed when I did my ATP practical training. And no, I've never made any type of adjustments to my logbook.
