Delta Customers Get More Connections, More Flights at Salt Lake City Hub
Wednesday October 1, 10:34 am ET
SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL - News) is enhancing service for customers and strengthening its financial position at its Salt Lake City hub with the implementation of its winter schedule on Jan. 7, 2004.
With the winter schedule, which will be published Oct. 11, Delta and Delta Connection will offer Salt Lake City customers:
two new daily flights to Detroit (a new destination from Salt Lake City)
more daily flights in 17 popular markets -- more connecting opportunities within eight connecting banks (down from
nine)
Salt Lake City customers now will have two daily flights to Detroit, a new destination from Delta's third largest hub. Customers also will have eight additional daily flights to existing destinations, for a total of 301 daily departures with nonstop service to 66 destinations, compared to 293 departures today. Delta Connection will increase the number of flights from 178 today to 206 by February 2004, while Delta will reduce flights from 115 to 95. The additional Delta Connection flights will be flown by SkyWest and Comair and will feature Bombardier CRJ regional jets.
Delta's new schedule also offers more connecting opportunities for customers during peak hours, and makes the hub more productive, by reducing the number of connecting banks from nine to eight.
"Consolidating our operation to eight banks allows us to improve connectivity and offer more flights at the times our customers want to fly," said Subodh Karnik, senior vice president-Network and Revenue Management.
Customers traveling between Salt Lake City and the following 17 cities will enjoy more frequency of flights: Tucson, Ariz.; Colorado Springs, Colo.; Oakland, Orange County and Ontario, Calif.; Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn.; Billings, Bozeman, Great Falls, Helena, Kalispell and Missoula, Mont.; Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Okla.; Omaha, Neb.; Rapid City, S.D.; and Washington, D.C. (Dulles).
"Our customers, especially business travelers, tell us that frequency of service is very important to them. The additional frequencies in these markets are a major enhancement to the service we offer at Salt Lake City," said Karnik.
With the new schedule, all flights at Billings, Great Falls, Helena, Kalispell, Missoula, Pasco and Spokane will be Delta Connection flights, operated by Delta Connection.
"The Delta Connection schedule better matches aircraft capacity to passenger demand, while improving the nonstop service patterns for customers to our hubs with more frequencies," Karnik said.
The changes announced today are part of Delta's overall broad-based profit improvement program which is designed to transform the way the company does business, improve productivity, increase efficiencies and redesign the travel process to provide customers with consistency, control and choice.
"The changes described today give Delta an excellent opportunity to improve our competitive position in Salt Lake City through cost reduction, while retaining our revenue base and advancing our financial stability in the face of continued economic uncertainty," said Karnik. "Strengthening the financial performance at our hubs, such as Salt Lake City, is necessary for Delta's survival and future success."

Well, according to the Dalpa.net, a lot of guys out there thought it would be worse. A lot of them liked that Montana flying. I know that they will be starting Steamboat Springs, CO in DEC from SLC and ATL, so some of that Mountain flying will still be there I guess--along with Vail from ATL and Jackson Hole from both SLC and ATL. And hey, adding Detroit back (they used to fly there from Detroit for years) is an added bonus, I guess?
