Help! I am faced with a decision, Mesa Street captain in the Dash 8 or Mt Air Cargo starting in the Van. I am hearing that Mesa is having a hard time getting people through training and the Feds are watching real close.
Can anybody offer any suggestions.... What would be the best route to go?

Mesa is hiring captains off the street? That's pretty sweet! Multi turbine 121 PIC time is sorts neat! Start using your feet!

The question becomes, do you have what it takes for the Mesa Training Department? If you are single or with a wife that can move to base with you, Mesa wouldn't be bad...40K your first year and home everynight...If you are going to be commuting, I would recommend going somewhere else....PM me if you have any other questions

You don't say what your experience is. Hard to form an opinion without that. 2000 hours isn't alot for PIC Dash if it is mostly single or light twin. The Dash will eat you for lunch.

Also, can you afford to take the $hitty pay from Mesa? Do you have a family to support? Are you going to commute? GOOD LUCK if those are the case.

If you are worried about making it through training at Mesa and you have a sure thing with the Van, go with MAC. Better pay. Better life. Better real-time PIC experience. The Van is a blast to fly.

Go for the 121 PIC time. Suck it up and get what will help you better your career. I understand the pay sucks but it is 121 PIC time.

I concur. Although 135 PIC time is still PIC time, it's the SE time that makes it fairly worthless. I know of more than a few 'Van drivers at MAC who left and the only thing they could get was right seat at a regional.

Go get the 121 multi-PIC.

Not saying that MAC's Van's are a bad deal- it's actually a pretty good job, easy and the company is pretty good. But if you're aspiring for more, you'd be spinning your wheels and wasting time there.
