Who operates the yellow/Red DHL caravans in the caribean? Does DHL do this themselves or is it contracted out like the Fedex 'vans? What do they pay? Thanks.

in the U.S.

Also outside the US. AFAIK DHL operates 757 and A300 Freighters via DHL Air and European Air Transport (Europe, Middle East) and a couple 727 via DHL Aero in Panama (Central America). These are all wholly owned but technically still contracted. Everything else is done via independant Contractors. DHL also relies heavily on chartered capacity from Passenger Airlines and smaller cargo operators.

Bell,

The name you're looking for is Kingfisher (not the one in India, of course). I've spent time in the islands and I'm familiar with them. The owner lives in St. Kitts/Nevis and the company is based in either St. Maarten or Trinidad. They have maintenance in STM and I know a lot of their pilots are based in Trinidad. I believe the overnights are in San Juan and maybe STM. They have nice crew rest facilities in STM.

The guys there are pretty cool. They work pretty hard with long days and multiple legs. The airplanes are well maintained and pretty automated for Caravans; full autopilot and all that jazz.

Before you take the plunge please be advised that Trinidad is not the place to be right now. It's beautiful and the women are out of sight but kidnappings are on the rise. Great place though. Good luck.

Thanks alot. I'm going to be flying a 'van in the northeast for a while, but I'm wanting to make it down there sooner or later, hopefully sooner.
