Does Anybody Have (recent) Experience With Getting A Dhc-8 Type Rating.....

Any Advise Or Recommendations Would Be Highly Appreciated...

The Goal Is Mostly To Get It On The Certificate........(self Financed)

I Checked Flight Safety Already....... Any Other Ideas?

Thanks Guys

YES I INTEND TO........ THAT WOULD GIVE MY A FIX CONTRACT RIGHT AWAY...THE AIRLINE WILL DO THEIR OWN COMPANY RELATED TRAINING AFTERWARDS..... LIKE SOUTHWEST FOR EXAMPLE WITH THE B737

huh?

What am I missing here? The few airlines that are flying the DHC-8 train all new hires at their own cost. I am unsure why or how this could benefit you at all?. This seems to be as unconventional of a scenario as I can think of. Is this a US carrier?

there have been several ads lately for typed Dash pilots for overseas contracts. I'd bet this is what he is looking at. Some of the jobs I've seen pay way more than any US-based Dash driver is likely to see, but all require a type rating.

I've talked to some guys who make a heck of a living bouncing from contract to contract overseas. I dont think it would be my cup of tea, but for some folks it's the perfect lifestyle.

I would tend to agree that this is, in all likelihood, an overseas contract. And like Flywrite said, some of these can be quite lucrative, and could more than offset the cost of a type rating over the long haul...assuming the contract(s) can carry you through the long haul. I did it for a while on the 757, and "guaranteed 5 year" contract ended after 2 years. However, I think for the most part, contract flying abroad CAN be a lucrative way to make a living, if you can adapt to that lifestyle.

That did cross my mind, probably the main reason why I asked him if it was a US carrier or not. The curve ball that threw me off was the fact that he is "FAA certificated" according to his profile assuming it is correct. To fly those contracts one would need a conversion since in reality a FAA certificated pilot cannot just pick a country out of the blue and go fly without the proper credentials/ licenses of that country/nation.

I agree and never said it was not nor did I make any reference to "contract flying" in my response that would lead one to believe that I was questioning this in any way. I was merely asking him a question since the post and profile caught my curiosity and interest.

answers to all the questions

Guys,

i am FAA certified, JAA certified, southafrican CAA certified.....

I ve been flying in the US and a couple of other countries in this world
during the last 18 years

from single engine turboprop to B 737......

it is about an oversea contract...that requires a typerating on the DHC-8...
as you guys probably know in most other countries there is no SIC qualification like in the US... so you need to have a full typerating also
as FO....

and beside of this a lot of other countries recognize training, done in the US
the only ask for a "validation-checkride".....

that's all about

thanks for your inputs
