This guy is looking to save some cash and do it in a 152 or a older 172. What do you guys charge?

We are probably not the cheapest on the field. We only have newer 172's which are about 150 per hour including instruction.. I know.. quite pricey. If you are looking for 152's and the like give Flight 101 a call. Not uncommon for someone at our place to get checked out their for the price of their rentals. I estimate between 5-8k to get it done at tradewinds depending on the student. We do have a ftd on site though which is nice for IFR. I did my ppl in a 152 though which saves money and is fun to fly in its own respect.

Is your friend doing this for a career or hobby? If its for the career track some of the newer technology might not be a bad choice. I think in about 1-2 years Cessna is going to only start making glass cockpits in their trainers.

Flight 101 has some old 152's, as well as 4 172's (3 with Garmin 430's). I can't remember the exact costs, but I think it's under $100/hr in the 152 for plane and instructor. I remember what it was when I started in 2000, $40/hr for the 152, and $20 for the instructor. That was nice.
