http://us.ard.yahoo.com/SIG=125i13n...fer=YHOREFER&property=finance&area=news&url=/"Delta AirElite is proud to be one of the first charter operators to offer the G550 for commercial charter services," said Michael B. Green, president and chief executive officer of Delta AirElite Business Jets. "The G550 will allow us to access more than 10,000 airports worldwide, giving our customers more nonstop capability than ever before."

With access to more than 400 business jets positioned throughout the United States, Delta AirElite has undertaken a strong initiative to strategically increase its fleet size through charter management agreements.

Charter management agreements allow Delta AirElite to increase aircraft availability without large capital commitments and to offer on-demand charter service on a broad base of high-quality, well-maintained corporate jets. The agreements also enable Delta AirElite to offer an attractive option for corporations and aircraft owners who want to lower aircraft ownership costs by having their corporate jets certified for Delta AirElite's commercial charter operations. The additional aircraft are also used to support member travel for Delta AirElite's innovative Fleet Membership program.

The ultra long-range Gulfstream G550 is the latest and most technically advanced model Gulfstream in production. Offering intercontinental capability with a nonstop range of 6,700 miles and a maximum cruise speed of 560 mph, the G550 is capable of flying nonstop itineraries such as New York to Tokyo and Los Angeles to Sydney. With spacious seating for 14 passengers, the G550 is designed to maximize passenger comfort and provide a productive work environment while offering luxurious amenities. All Delta AirElite large cabin business jets are staffed with a cabin attendant to ensure passenger comfort and safety.

"This aircraft rounds-out our portfolio of business jets that we operate, allowing us to offer every class of high-quality business jets to our customers," said Green. Delta AirElite Business Jets is a wholly owned subsidiary of Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL - News), providing aircraft charter, aircraft management, and its innovative Fleet Membership Program. Now in its 20th year serving business aviation travelers, Delta AirElite is the only business jet operator owned by a major U.S. airline. The company operates a diverse fleet of Bombardier Challenger, Learjet, Gulfstream and Cessna Aircraft. For more information, please call 877-DAE-JETS (877-323-5387) or visit AirElite.com.

ALPA kills brain cells

Here is some "wisdom" from two Delta pilots on the DALPA page concerning the above press release:

"Some key points: Only bizjet operator wholly owned by major airline Undertaking major expansion with more than 400 jets! Gulfstream 550: $45 Million per copy. Any guesses where the money is going?"

"I'm thinking I know where all our former "First Class" passengers are. You don't think that's hurting the mainline just a little bit?"

I am sure that people who charter a 550 @ 8 grand an hour were really close to choosing to endure the TSA, halfway undress in the terminal, have people rumage through their bags, sit in a seat where they have to wipe off the previous passenger's pretzels and comfortably keep their knees in their chest, listen to surly flight attendants get annoyed at any request, and the list could go on.

Not sure why they are so upset...Delta AirElite didn't buy the aircraft. It likely belongs to a private individual or corporation. Notice the part of the press release that states it has been added to Delta AirElite's charter certificate through a charter management agreement.

Exactly right English. They just don't understand corporate aviation.
Guys,

You've only seen part of the story, quoted out of the context of the thread. The posts that were quoted above were corrected by another DAL pilot familiar with Air Elites operations. There are as many pilots with the airlines that have zero knowledge of corporate aviation as there are corporate pilots that have zero knowledge of the airlines. That doesn't seem to hold some back from commenting on things the know little or nothing about.
