Delta To Launch Service to Second Dominican Destination from JFK
Monday February 7, 1:00 pm ET Delta to begin service May 1 to Santiago, Dominican Republic - the island's second-largest city

NEW YORK, Feb. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- New York customers will soon benefit from more service to the Dominican Republic with the addition of daily service to Santiago from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, beginning May 1 (subject to government approval). This service is in addition to Delta's daily flight from JFK to Santo Domingo.

Santiago is the second-largest Dominican city and the birthplace of the Merengue. Surrounded by some of the most fertile farmland in the country, it has long been a center for agricultural trade and boasts a population of nearly a million.

"We listened carefully to our customers in New York and the Dominican Republic, and are pleased to deliver new service to Santiago - a key city for Dominicans," said James Sarvis, director-Latin America and Caribbean. "Delta's flights from JFK to Santiago and Santo Domingo will provide an important and direct bridge for vacation and business travel." Delta's schedule between New York-Kennedy and Santiago, effective May 1 Flight 307 departs New York- Kennedy at 6:20 a.m. Arrives Santiago at 9:57 a.m. Flight 314 departs Santiago at 11:20 a.m. Arrives New York-Kennedy at 2:55 p.m.

Delta recently increased flights to popular destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean. In December, the airline began a second daily flight to San Jose, Costa Rica; and Sao Paulo, Brazil, and also re-launched service to Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Delta also recently began new service to Belize; St. Lucia, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; and added frequencies to the popular tourist destination of Liberia, Costa Rica. The airline has also announced new service to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands from Atlanta, to Cancun from Salt Lake City and Atlanta, and to Los Cabos, Mexico, from Salt Lake City and Atlanta. Song, Delta's low-fare service, also inaugurated new service to Nassau, Bahamas, from New York's Kennedy International Airport in December.

Didn't Jetblue just drop Santo Domingo too? Now Delta will be going to Santiago and competing against Jetblue and AA. Maybe Jetblue will move out of Santiago also.

It wasn't profitable. We're not in the business of maintaining market share, we're in the business of making money. As sad as closing a city down is, especially to our crewmembers there, our company is 5 years young and not afraid of trying something new. If we're good at it, it will be a SONG route some day...

Didn't Delta lose $2.2 billion in the fourth quarter of 2005?

I wouldn't get too excited. DL's just shifting one of the SDQ flights to STI. There's no net gain of flights.

Well Blue, not really. Most of that was a charge or right off. Same with the full year loss, at least half was made up of one time charges. But, management also secured $2.3 billion a year in savings, which hopefully will help down the road. Thanks for your concern. Are you up for your 5 year interview yet? Getting nervous? Careful what you say.......

Medflyer,

Sounds like they are paying attention to loads and what passengers want. That is a good sign....

Yes General, we are all very worried about that 5 year thing.

Geez, I figured you could do better!

Keep it up jack@##.....

You're only feeding the Delta arrogance stereotype....

And its only a "paper" $2.3 Billion loss...
Why don't you stick your nose where its wanted?

Not to worry airline employees---the $30 billion that's been lost since 9/11 is only a paper loss.....

The problem is though is that the paper were talking about is money.

Ha hahahahhahah. Who are you? The Flightinfo police? What a dumba$$. So, I represent all Delta pilots who are arrogant? What? Say again? And, to top it off, you are wrong with your numbers. Nevermind....

ZKmayo,

Wow. That was deep.

So only about 700 to 800 million of it is real loss? Whats that times 4?

DAL has a lot of hurting ahead of it still. No place to be gloating yet general.

This could mean the end of jetBlue. Guess I'd better update the ol' resume again. Anyone know who's hiring and growing and profitable?

Mr. LEE..

I am sick of your monopoly on these boards...
And I am tired of your thinly disguised sniveling towards other pilots at the LCCs..

You ... like many others... blame the competition for your problems..

I will admit... you usually have some reasonable input and info...
Since it seems that all you do is read news on your computer and post on this board..

But your true motives are shown frequently...

How about dropping some of your DAL attitude...
As I have mentioned before...
I too have been around this industry... longer than you I believe...

Arrogance and spite are not attractive...
And being a know it all blowhard is just annoying....

Have you tried gardening?
