Hello everyone,

I am considering attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Commercial Airline Pilot Training, CAPT, program at the Daytona, FL campus. I have visited the facility, which is brand new, and was quite impressed. They also have a fleet of brand new Diamond Star DA-40's. I'm thinking about becoming a career pilot, as soon as I finish my master's degree. Ths school is expensive, but I dont mind the huge loans. I have some time in various airplanes including Piper J-3, Cessna 150, 172 and a 310, a DeHavilland Beaver, Piper Warrior, an ultralight, a helicopter and a commercial jet; I enjoy every second of it. At what point do you know that you want to be a pilot as a career? Am I making the right decision? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

The CAPT program is one of the best out there on the market present day and will allow you to get to a great position in the shortest amount of time possible. You will even get a type rating that usually is only afforded to higher time pilots so I wouldn't even give this a second thought if I were you. It seems to be one of the best on the market.

I was believing it until I scrolled down...phew...

Stay Away!!! If you want to do something like that, hit up Mesa's MAPD program...good stuff from what I've been told.

"Orlando, Fla., June 22, 2004 - Less than one year after its launch, the CAPT program graduated its first two cadets. Today, only weeks after their graduation, the two graduate cadets were interviewed by one of the nation's most successful airlines. The Director of Training commented "The Boeing MD-90 EFD type rating taught in the CAPT Program will definitely enable CAPT graduates to transition to our all 'glass' aircraft more easily than most pilots who transitioned from older 'round-dial' type of aircraft." Employment paperwork is now being completed for the graduates to begin their training. Check back soon for additional updates as to the cadets' employment status, aircraft assignment, and for more news."

Er, em, this is the "latest" update from the CAPT program... 8 months old.. kinda weird for such a cutting edge program.. where's the update saying these folks got jobs? I'd ask them about that if you pursue this route.
