Question for anyone who flys the -10 series 9's....

I have a friend who is going to be trained on a -9 for a On Demand cargo op.... The -9's they have are -15 models (slatless)

But there are not too many -15 sims out there... Most are -30 sims.... I know the DC-9 type applies to all DC-9's/MD-80's, but if the training is done in a MD-80 or DC-9-30 sim, what kind of differences training will have to be done for him? I can imagine the slatless -9's are a different beast than the ones with slats.

Also, anyone done -9 training at Higher Power or Alteon? (Used to be Flight Safety Boeing)

Thanks....

NATCO

I think NATCO at MSP or whoever they are now, has the only 10/15 series sim. We train in a 30 series sim and do differences training to fly the 10/15 series 9's. There is not much difference except the 30's are dogs

ABX's DC-9 sim is a 30 series and what they do for -10 series sim training if needed is that they have a -10 series flap handle that the sim tech replaces the -30 series flap/slat handle with. The -10 series actually lands quite differently than a slatted DC-9, the -10 comes down the glideslope approx. 2 degrees AND versus a slatted DC-9 at approx 3 degrees ANU. The -10 series on landing is very similar to a DC-8 with the exception that you can slip the 9 if needed for crosswinds. You will also find that the brakes on the -10 feel quite a bit different than -30 and up DC-9s as the -10 has only 7 instead of all 14 brake pistons working.

USA Jet Sim

USA Jet uses their own in-house DC-9-30 simulator. It's a level B sim located right in our own building. It's nice as we don't have to travel for sim. Also, we get great sim times!

Also, it allows the training department to create and test various scenarios for us pilots without much additional cost.

-30's are dogs

Not all -30's are dogs. It depends what engines they have on them. All of ours are dogs because they took the big engines off and put smaller ones on.

Hi!

Ameristar?

Ameristar

I heard that Ameristar Airways, the DC9 side was fined over 100K and had the 125 certificate yanked.

Has anyone heard anything further about this? My info was 2nd hand...maybe even 3rd.
