Question:

I am an aircraft manager for a medium sized aircraft managment company. The CFO of the company that I manage the aircraft for wants to implement a days off policy for his pilots (only 2 fulltime), seperate from vacation. He has left it up to the management company to figure this out. He is willing to pay a part of our coverage.

The problem is that the management company is resisting this change as none of our other managed customers have requested this. Quite frankly, they could care less.

How do you TAG and pilots and others working for managment company's handle scheduled days-off?

Did I mention that the aircraft is also avial. for 135?

Thanks for any help you all can give me.

TAG does not want you getting any days off, even if the owner says he will pay for coverage......

beacause then it may be a few less dollars TAG can charge him on his management fees, etc.... This is also the reason TAG and maybe other management companies like the fact they can talk owners into crewing planes with only TWO pilots. They love convincing them they will make money on 135 flights....and if you have a day off (god forbid) when one of these charters comes up.....the rental guy cant do it. He is not "trained" 135 by TAG.....and....who do you think loses money if that charter does not go.....well, it aint the owner thats for sure!!!

As I am sure you know, nobody cares much about the pilot, its simply business. Get what you can, keep the owner happy, and push for those days off no matter what.

oh well....been there, dont that.

GOOD LUCK

You don't need no stinking days off !

If the CFO has any say in things given they are paying the management company's fees, I would think a reasonable arrangement could be reached ??? This is where you get hosed as the middle man because they don't want the fight. Try seeking the scheduled days off approach where you get to choose a reasonable mumber of days off each month that are "yours", not off/135 standby. This takes care of the B-Days, Anniversaries, and so forth. Ask for too many and you'll get the snikering smirk while being showed the door. Obviously if they make money off of the 135 flying they are going to want 24/7 coverage but they are obligated to give you 13 scheduled days off a quarter ?

I think your chances of success are better off if you play the lottery.

We don't get scheduled days off but we do get to request special events off without vacation. If coverage is a problem, then there are ample vacation days that can be used. All in all it works pretty well.

Give me a call if you want to talk more about it.
