I am looking to begin lessons in Dallas or Houston (i travel alot so I spend alot of time in both cities, flying back and forth...funny enough).

Do anyone have any suggestions, which airports are close to the downtowns and have the best "set ups".

Also are there some site I can send my wife to make her comfortable that I'm not going to end up like JFK?

Thanks,

Joe

Dallas, I fly out of Elligtonfield in Houston. There is a good flying Club in our FBO that has nice airplanes and a number of great CFI's. If you Are intersted, PM me and I can give you the name of a CFI and help you get going. BTW, Ellington is in south Houston. Lots to do and see. 265

ADS has a number of flight schools: Monarch Air, American Flyers, Classic Aviation, and Flightstar just to name a few.

All of them have websites.

Check out Fletcher Aviation at HOU, I think David has learned his lesson by putting car parts in airplanes and it seems as if the mx is where it should be present day. The reputation was shaken but not broken, David was a piece of work. Maybelle and Larry kept the place afloat through the tuff times and the prices are reasonable on the AA5A/AA5B's. They had a "Banana" V-35 (91466) with the big 300 HP IO-550, awesome airplane, if you get the chance get the checkout after you get the PVT. John Disler is a very senior engineer for NASA who instructs at Fletcher part time, top notch CFI who has been in this "game" for many many years.

Also take a look at Lenz(sp?) at EFD, nice mix and decent prices.

Stay far away from Cliff Hyde at EFD, bad operation and prices that are ridiculous.

The MX shop is still going. Did you ever fly with them?
Thanks for the information once again. . . The only flying I did with them was a twin commanche checkout that I did so I could fly back and forth to DAL on the weekends, this was probably 5 or so years ago though so I guess I am outta the "loop". lol

Flightline and Flightstar at KADS. That's where I did my private and instrument training. Good airplanes, good maintenance, and good instructors. In Houston, I got checked out at Fletcher at KHOU. GREAT service and atmosphere. I would have tried to work there if I had stayed in Houston. Instructors at Fletcher are great too. Last time I was there, there were also some pretty cute female instructors too...like that make any difference. ;)
