Both Grinstein and the MEC must feel pretty good about this. Grinstein because it's clear DAL pilots have little or no stomach for Ch 11. The MEC because it looks like they have the membership behind them.

What is taking you Delta pilots so long to wake up? We had to take the vile medicine at AA and you will too. The longer you wait the worse off your Airline is going to be. It seems as though you guys think that this is not for real. PanAm had a superiority complex too and we see where they are. Don't wait too long and end up like United. Surely you guys are smart enough to see that this IS NOT a ploy by management to extract concessions? Your airline is going down and my perspective is that you folks are too greedy to do your part. Even if you take 30% on the chin you will still be the highest paid, but I suppose you want AA + 50% or bust! Well bust at this point seems highly likely!

Your perspective is wrong. If they were greedy, why did they offer 15% BEFORE negotiating? Huh?

If they worked for free, it wouldn't make much more than a dent in the operating costs.

vc10: What were the numbers on the vote? Where do I sign up for the office pool for CH 11 Date and time? I wanna put 5 bucks on 6 Feb 05, 1000 EST.

Don't worry

TC I wouldn't worry Big D is not going to affect your pay raises at FEDEX.
I heard the same rhetoric at AA "they wouldn't make money if even we worked for free" and it is horse $hit. AA would most certainly have gone the way of UAL if not for the pilot give backs. From the start I was behind DALPA's stand, protect jobs, keep the wages that have been fought for and won and all that, however as I said in my original post there comes a time when you have to see the light. And the light isn't 15% without negotiations?- isn't that generous, I don't think that it was purely altruistic on the part of Dalpa. I think it was give a dog a bone and maybe it will go away.

Witchdoctor,

Our MEC Chair is in contact with our CEO a couple times a week (as read in an article) and it is my opinion (and others) that this whole deal already has an amount that will be extracted eventually from our contract. It is already known. The pressure right now is to get the creditors to go along. That is what is taking sooo long. The non-union people toaday got their first pay cut--a 10% deal, and probably more is on the way--since they have no contracts or unions. We will participate too, and this latest TA allows a whole bunch of senior Captains to leave or risk their lump sums. This will allow a HUGE bid to develop, and the rest of us will move up and not take such a huge hit on pay. I don't know one Captain that says "full pay to the last day." We all know that we will take huge cuts. But, we want the others --especially the creditors/vendors/lendors to also share in the pain. If we had taken the $1 billion in cuts a few months ago, the creditors etc. might not have particpated in overall cuts to make us truly competitive.

Bye Bye--General Lee

I've got just as much right to comment as you, witchdoctor, so don't get your panties all in a wad. It's unfortunate that the best you can come up with to describe your opinion of working for free is animal excrement.

While you're working on improving your vocabulary, you might try to improve your reading skills. I didn't say 15% without negotiations, I said 15% BEFORE negotiations, and I even put it in all uppercase letters like that. That means, DALPA was willing to offer 15% before they even sat down to talk about it. Delta Management's position, on the other hand, was a demand of 30% BEFORE they would even talk. Now, you tell me. If Delta really needed money that bad, why didn't they grab the 15% while they could, impose 10% pay cuts across the board on everyone else (no contracts, they can do that, you know?) and start saving money a year or two ago? Do you have a colorful adjective for that?

You're barkin' up the wrong tree, my friend.

Lighten up Francis

First off TC I am not your friend and second where is my vocabulary lacking. Is it because I call it what it is? Horse $hit or would you prefer nonsense! It is true you do have the right to your opinion as do I and I do agree that Delta mgmt should have accepted their offer, however they DID NOT.
You know what, I am not going to waste my time responding. My original post was directed at Delta pilots and I don't want ot debate it with someone on the outside. As I said above to the General, (someone who actually has a stake in the debate) "I sit corrected." BTW, I am not barking up your tree I'm pissing on it.

Pardon me, but I didn't see the "Delta pilots only respond" disclaimer on your post.

Yes, I'd prefer nonsense, but I certainly don't expect it from you. No surprise that you'd come out spewing vitriole and now all you can manage are a few crude toilet words.

It's too late for you to not waste your time - - it's already gone.

And it's not my tree you're urinating on, big dog. Mind you, it might just be electrified.

;)

General. I was under the impression that the pilot deal had to be done before the bondholders vote on Oct. 14. I don't think that is going to happen. Don't rush, at 3 and change per share, take your time and at the brink sign.
