Alright on some jepp plates they will list D-ATIS, which is digital atis. I have looked it up and just making sure I understood it right. I understood that when it is listed that way the pilots may download the atis in the cockpit instead of listening to it. Only so many airports have it.

your understanding it correctly.

towers always enter the weather at least once an hour into the FAA computer, so even if the ATIS is not digital, you can via ACARS download the lastest METAR and mark it up (if you are lazy like me).

Except that the metar does not have the other important information on it like, runways in use, pireps, runway conditions, and most importantly increased bird activity.

well duh those darn birds.......

it's nice to not write down everything and i was thinking more of the class D type airfields that do not have an ATIS but rather an AWOS.

besides i like asking approach if we can have runway X, only to have them say it is closed. :)

It should list Runways landing and departing. And I think I have seen Birds in the vicinity. The other things I am not sure of. I love this feature on our planes.
