are crosswind componet charts specific to each airplane? or can a C-172 reference the same chart as a 737?

I looked at one for an Archer, 172RG, 152, and a 150, and all look the same.

Crosswind component is crosswind component. Doesn't matter on the plane.

...or if you happen to have a scientific calculator (one with a sin button), just take the wind velocity times the sin of the angle between the wind and the runway.

i.e., Runway 18, wind is 210 at 20.
30 degree angle between the wind and the runway,
sin of 30 degrees is .5
.5 times 20 = 10 knots of crosswind

Easy rule of thumb: 5-7-9.

30 degrees off runway heading, take .5 (5/10) of wind for xwind
45 " " " .7 (7/10) " " "
60 (or more) " " " .9 (9/10) " " "

Simple trig. Sin(30) = .5, Sin(45) = .707, Sin(60) = .866

Don't get distracted by looking at a x-wind chart when you should be flying. Sporty's sells all kinds of needless junk that would fill a flight bag.

Save your money.

Besides, it's going to change at least 6 times between final and roll-out.

And if I said "between flare and rollout" you'd know right away I'd landed at Meadowlake. :D
