Quick Question...

What is the best bag to have on the CRJ as a Crew bag?? I have been told Purdy Neat thing fits in the overhead since the crew storage is screwed from the OSAMA Door in the front..

Any good suggestions to finding a cheaper one than $300 on stopoverstore.com

Thanks...

Soon to Be CRJ driver

I have the Purdy Neat bag, but mine won't fit up there.......a 4 day trip there is no way I can pack that light.....if you don't pack anything, you can probably do it....maybe....best thing is to fly the 40-seater.......

Put your bag under the most rearward seat (row 13). That's what I and most other guys do after having our bags lost more than once. My $25.00 bag fits just fine.

If you aren't set on getting a Purdy Neat bag...(and you're really cheap like myself) you can go to Big Lots (the closeout store) and get a Pierre Cardin bag, (for some reason these always end up at Big Lots) for around 25 dollars. I've had mine for 2 years now and it is bad a** I have dragged that thing through 5 inches of snow/ice/road salt/de-ice fluid/mud...you name it and the thing hardly shows any wear. Also the wheels are like new. It fits in the overhead perfectly in the CRJ and doesn't take up the whole bin like most of the Purdy Neat bags. I can put a set of gym shoes/clothes, and stuff for a 3 day trip and it works. Also expandable. Anyway, try Big Lots, they have good bags for really cheap! Good luck!

Costco

I hear lots of good things about the regular black roller bags at Costco. Pretty durable and very function.

Not to mention they don't cost much.

Ebags. Good size and if the front of it isn't too stuffed it fits fine in the overhead. Thing rolls great too!

Have you guys considered keeping your bag behind your seat? Once you slide the seat forward theres plenty of room for it. I have a full size TravelPro and it fits fine stuffed full of 4 days worth of clothes.

Only drawback is having to climb into the seat over the center pedestal, but that's it.

You don't have to worry about leaving your stuff at the mercy of the rampers or unattended and out of your control in the cabin with the pax.

I had someone suggest it's a safety issue because it takes an extra second to get out of my seat, but compared to getting locked in the cockpit when the FA forgets to stow her jumpseat, it seems like a small risk.

www.wingmanluggage.com has 22" and 26" bags designed to fit in the CRJ overhead if you don't over stuff them. They are constructed similar to the PNT bags but with most of the iron work on the inside, and cost a little less. They also have plastic runners for easy sliding into overheads and over curbs and have a narrower handle if that's where you carry your hat when the CP isn't around. They are 100% guaranteed and they refurbish them for free every two years. Free shipping and save $10 if you use the toll-free number.

Hate to bump this up to the top again but will the 22in stealth from Purdy neat fit pretty well in he overhead? Thanks

I have the 22in PNS bag and as stated earlier, if not too overstuffed, it will fit just fine in the CRJ overhead.

The $89 roll-a-board @ Costco is a good bag and has a LIFETIME warranty. Just bring the broken one back and get a new one!

Currently am using a $70 Samsonite (21" roll-a-board) from their factory outlet store. Going on 2 yrs. now and it still works. It's starting to show its age, but considering that at Comair it frequently ends up under every other bag in the cargo compartment and I watched a rampie "chuck" it out the cargo door to the ground one time, I'd say it has done ok. It fits in the overheads in the CRJ with the wheels up (bag upside down), but again at Comair we are not permitted to put it there. Find out if your airline has a policy as to where crew bags must go.

Just remember that the overhead in the CRJ is 8" tall inside, and that's it. Bring your tape measure with you when you buy a cheap bag and don't forget to include the wheels in your measurements.

I can't wait to see the look on the FAA guys face when he sees where you have put your bag. Those guys live for moments like that.

Gee, and here I thought that overhead bins in the cabin were there for paying passengers. Silly me, going insane and thinking their conveneince should come first.

Didn't you know, it's all about the pilots.......

Yeah, this whole bag issue is getting a little old. I tweaked my back a week or so ago putting my bag in the little yellow condom for storage in the cargo area.......they really need to solve this bag issue and restore our little place up in the cockpit....I've heard that there is a fix, but it costs money.......so........

Actually, I've had several Feds on the jumpseat since I started putting my bag there, never had any of them say a word, except one, who asked if he could put his laptop on top of it since the overheads were all full.

I just got wind of a new site from a guy who flys CRJ's and he designed a bag that is very similar to the stealth bag with some nice improvments. There might be others on this site that have actually put it to use. Hope this helps.
