I'm new to commuting and crashpads. Can you give me advice on what makes a good crashpad or a bad one. Should it be close to the airport or in a nicer neighborhood, hotbunk vs having your own. Etc. I'm specifically looking for EWR. I've seen some in Elizabeth and in Hoboken. Any adivce? Thanks.

Elizabeth is a pretty tough city. Be careful going out after dark there. Maybe it has changed since the last time I was there, (went out with the crew to some seedy bar - not a good idea!) so maybe someone else can provide some insight.

Two words: Robert Treat. Get on a good floor and you will think that you are back in college. I have seen some things there that would make a porno moive look tame.

Newark is terrible. Lots of crime and unsafe streets. Good luck with the vermin you'll encounter (2 and 4 legged variety)

i don't know much about crash pads in EWR, but i grew up in NJ. there are plenty of very nice suburban towns nearby. above you mentioned elizabeth and hoboken. the 2 couldn't be any different. hoboken is a very nice little city right on the hudson river, with tons of bars, great night life and is a 10 minute train ride into NYC. however it can be very expensive to live there. elizabeth, without getting into details, is pretty much a dump. other towns around newark to stay away from would be east orange, irvington, parts of linden . . too many to list. if you have any questions about other towns nearby just send me a PM.
