I just got assigned my base for after training and I was wondering about how much people pay per month for a crash pad or an apartment fairly close to the airport. I will be on reserve and also wonder how people get to the airport. I have heard some people get hotels for the nights they need to after getting a line, do some hotels offer a deal for doing this maybe 6-10 times? I tried putting something in the crashpad area...but no one really reads that area...and it pertains to the regionals. I am planning on trying to commute after reserve from west michigan to detroit. Thanks,

Shortbus

When I worked at XJ, I know some people got a hotel and split it up X many ways. Some hotels have a shuttle for you to use, if not, take your car. Crash pads will range from extremely cheap to $250 plus per month. I have a crash pad/apartment now down in IND and its $130/month.

A lot of local airport motels (Best Western, Comfort, and the other cheapies) charge $30-$40 a night for flight crew. It tends to work out similar to a crash pad if you only need 4-6 nights or so per month. Good luck.

I know a few of my 9E buddies that split a hotel right there at the port as a crashpad....i believe its the comfort inn but i could be wrong

Long term at the Dis-Comfort Inn is $25 per night, including a free hot breakfast, and ta-da crew discount at the bar. So if you can find 24 close personal friends to stay with you it's only $30 a month.

Hey DTW guys is the old Travel Lodge (Metro Inn) still standing?
What a shiitehole, but no tour at XJ would have been complete without it!

Oh yeah.....it's still there!

You're talking about the place next to the Big Boy right? I never had the pleasure but I did stay at that rat hole down the road....the Airport Inn or something like that. $25/night.
