Has anyone ever used 36R in CLT? What a piece of crap. Ive flown into most major airports in the southeast, and i have never seen potholes like these near the D2 intersection by the Signature ramp. Apparently some work had been done on the runway a while back and they did not have enough time to properly patch the holes.
Every week or two at 1AM they go out and patch them with garvel and bubble gum or something. The following day after having c130's, 767, and other large aircraft go over them the filling material starts to disintigrate into fist size chuncks scattering everywhere and leaving huge potholes.
I complained to the tower during a US Air push agout the chuncks of asphalt(after I took off haha....), and as a result they sent everyone around for the next 5 to 10 minutes until they got the stuff cleaned up. I felt pretty good about my self for a minute thinking that I might have helped an accident. Ah shut you stupid jerk, all you did was delay everyone.
Anyway what do I? I have complained my a$$ off. I realize that a proper repair would close the runway for days, or even a couple of weeks. But what happens when there is an accident as a result of the pothole or the chuncks of asphalt. There could be a blowout, gear collapse; or engine and airframe damage as a result of the asphalt.
There I feel better now. I have been complaining obout this for 9 months now. This probably wont help either, but it sure feels good to vent.

Request another runway for operational necessity....problem solved

I will agree with the first poster as I had this happen to me a couple of months ago going in to CLT. On landing, the tower warned us of "loose pavement" on the runway in the touchdown zone (near the D2 intersection adjacent to SFS) of 36R ... the warning came just as we passed the pothole. Wasn't visible until it was too late to avoid it.

A chunk of the loose pavement severed a brake line causing all the fluid on one side of the airplane to leak out ... lost all brakes on one side. Fortunately beta was all that was needed to stop the airplane ... but it had the potential to be a bad situation.

Used the runway once subsequently and the pavement appeared to have been patched.

Be warned and fly safe.

(aka the guy who hopes CLT is landing south every time I go back)

Never been to CLT but the worst runway ive seen was in Greenwood MS GWO i forget the number without looking, but its the shorter runway there. I think the average dirt strip would be smoother.
