Is there such a thing as an acrobatic rating? Or is it just a certain amount of instruction without a rating addon?

Not only is there no such thing as an aerobatics rating, but there is also no instruction required to do aerobatics, although it would probably be wise to get some instruction anyway. You've just got to make sure that the airplane is in the aerobatic category and that you are wearing 'chutes. Also you'll probably need the tailwheel sign-off to fly most aerobatic airplanes without the instructor.
