This is not a flame question! I repeat, this is not a flame question. Could SW just downsize AT and furlough pilots if they don't get the vote? Would there then be more hiring at SW off the street? Could SW hire people off the street and put them into AT equipment?

1. Yes
2. Probably not
3. Maybe, but probably not

None of your questions really matter because BOTH groups will approve overwhelmingly.

Hope that helps,

Its the aviation industry... I could see them trying it.

Southwest does what they want to. If they wanted to dump AT they would find a way and do it. Don't mess with Texas, uh I mean, Southwest Airlines.

The Railway Labor Act prohibits a unionized company from purchasing another company and simply shutting them down.

The purchased company can be downsized but only a certain percentage per year. Supposedly it would take about 12 years for SWA to draw down AAI.

Ya, tell that to the Midwest pilots. I would also love to see where in the RLA it says that and how it would force a company to continue a non profitable portion of it business.

But it doesn't keep them from transferring or liquidating assets.

There's the rub. AT makes money. Why shut it down if it's producing revenue?
It's obvious no one wants the 717, so if anything the least cost will go down not up till it's cheaper to cut them up than run them. So it looks like B scale/whipsaw till the whole debacle is over.
