A student posed this question to me today:

What are the five (5) corrections that the Cessna manufacturers have designed on the C-172 to combat the left turning tendencies?

I had never heard that there are 5, I can name two and so could he.

1. The Avco Lycoming O-320-D2J engine being mounted on a cant.
2. The bent lower tab on the rudder
3. ?
4. ?
5. ?

I told him I'd look into it, and in the mean time to call Cessna or ask an A&P.

My (left) turn to be funny....

Things Cessna uses to reduce left turning tendencies:

1. Cant engine
2. Bend Tab
3. Foot
4. Rudder pedal
5. Fat guy in right seat

Just kidding.....

Actually im not sure that there are more than the two you mentioned. Beachcraft has always used the canted engine and off-set vertical stabilizer. You should call Cessna, they will have the answer and they are always helpful with my questions.

GOOD LUCK

1) Cant engine.
2) One wing has higher Angle of Incidence.
3) Rudder tab bent to the left.
4) Vertical Stab offset.
5) Baffle them with BullSh!t.
