I'm in the process of researching a career change back to aviation. One question I have is this.

Is it true that corporate flight operations are more attracted to candidates with and A&P?

I have an A&P and would like to use it to some degree as well. Is anyone out there currently employed in such a manner?

Should have made it more clear. I also plan on getting my other certificates and building hours! Not just use the A&P!

I know a few guys that have their A&P that fly around me. Most of them don't do both. There was one company that both of their pilots had their A&P's. That is the way they wanted it. Also there are a few companies around here that prefer you to have your A&P. Good Luck and network while you are working on your ratings.

I'm assuming you want to be a corporate pilot and need to know if the A&P as an additional credential will help?

Although it is nice to have and may help get you in the front door as it attests to your overall experience, I think it depends upon the company. One of my friends actually was not selected for a flying job because he had an A&P. The rather ignorant owner thought his A&P painted him as a wrench turning grease monkey and didn't want him flying our jet. My attempts to change his perception of my frined were useless.

Also consider the fact that a flying A&P pulls double duty with "economically challenged" operators. Believe me, a good operation would never ask you to do both. An operation on a shoestring budget would probably like you to work two jobs and only pay you for one.

Research the companies you want to work for and use the Cert. if you think it will help. If not, nobody has to know about it.

Good luck,

25 years ago it was much more common for a "Corporate Operator" to want a pilot to have an A&P... As the aircraft have become more complex and expensive, most operators don't want pilots "wrenching" on their planes even if they have an A&P...

I would say that in todays world, the A&P certificate will have very little bearing on getting a Corporate Pilot position....

Your experience as a pilot will have a much greater bearing... get your ATP and get as much experience in "Corporate" aircraft as you can... this will get you the job the fastest....

Good luck and fly safe!
