Hi everybody,
I am curious how some of you contract pilots handle duty time. Example.....do you consider a day rate to be for 24 hours? Or 8, or what? Only reason I ask is that I recently did a trip that had me at the airport at around sunrise and back that night at almost midnight. I'm typed in their airplane and all of that and the rate is fair, but is it reasonable to ask for more $$ on days like that?

I'm pretty new to contracting so any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

If you charge more for a long day, should they pay less for a short day?

Charge by calendar day.

Calendar day... That way if you land at 12:01am, which was not uncommon for some of my contract clients, you can charge for 2 days.

Use the calender day.....If I show up at 3pm and leave at 5pm I charge for the whole day. Conversly a 6:15am show and a 10:00 pm off is one day.

Set what the day consists of initially and you won't have any problem charging the full day for 3 hours of work.

Thanks to all.........
