I am wanting to do a little contract flying for the next month or two. I have never done this before, so any guidance would be appreciated. I don't really know where to begin to get the word out past the local area that I am available. Also, if you guys know anyone needing a fill-in driver, shoot me a PM.

Where do you live? What have you flown? When was the last time you went to simulator based training in it? Is the 737 really the only one that matters? If so, good luck...
 
There is a decent amount of work that I am aware of.

Three things migh help for a start:
1) What are you typed in and do you have sim training in any of them in the last year. (Sadly if you are not current, most folks will not hire you).
2) Where do you live.
3) Can you provide references from operations that you flew the airplanes listed in 1).

I am sure plenty of people stand ready to help, but you might have to get out of the easy chair and give a little more info to get it...
 
Be careful - remember when you fly as a contract pilot you are taking responsibilty for EVERYTHING related to the flights you are doing, ie., all maintenance up-to-date, all AD's complied with, all paperwork current (RVSM, MEL)etc. Is the insurance coverage adequate or do you even know what the policy says? Some contact pilots I know take a whole day just to go through all the aircraft paperwork before the flight and most folks who use contract pilots don't want to pay for that day since you're not flying.

I'm not one to be afraid of assuming a little responsibility, but you have to always consider all the "what ifs" - it's your ticket and tail on the line.
 
Thanks for the replies. I am waiting on a class at SWA, so yes the 737 is the only one type that matters:) I am typed in a few corporate jets, but am not current in the last year (it's been about 15 months since FSI). I did recently complete a new type (737) though and it is my impression that counts for something in regards to currency in the other A/C provided it has been within two years. I don't remember the specific regulation though.

With regard to responsibility, that is an interesting point. I guess I have too much on the line now I have my career job waiting for me to screw up trying to make a few bucks. I think I'll just continue chillin' at home and wait for SWA. Thanks again for the replies.

It's not a regulation..its the insurance companies..
I could not even cover you as an SIC on the insurance if you have not been to an approved school withing the last 12 months. Thats on type also-the insurance could care less if you know the 737 flows backwards and forwards they want to know that you have done it in the type of biz jet you are flying.
Sorry to say it but you are untouchable even as an SIC-
Beside SWA will be calling you soon-you will be too busy to think of contract work.
