I was wondering if CAL demands the 4 year or are hiring without it with or without a sponsor? Also, If you have previous Guam/Pacific experience will that help as well? I heard they still have problems getting people to go to Guam and if you are willing to go not a bad deal. I guess it is all 737's out there now??? Thanks.

4 Year Degree is highly desirable..

Previous Guam experience probably will not help you at all..

Guam has been going fairly senior lately...

I think the sponsor is pretty much the only way right now.....any other input from pilots that work there?

what exactly is a sponsor? is that someone who works there and walks in your resume?

What criteria did you use for finding out what a sponser is? I tried several but couldnt find anything that worked. care to share?

four year degree a must, and have sponser. GUM very senior

According to the system snapshot somebody posted here recently, the most junior in GUM was hired 04/06, so it looks like there are at least some chances for junior guys.

"Sponsor" was talked about in another thread. Continental doesn't use the term, but if you have an internal recommendation that's effectively your sponsor.

Im EWR a few monhs ago, talked to some CO guys. They say Junior guys are getting EWR and the 757.

Does it appear to anybody else that, "having to know somebody on the inside", whether at CAL, FedEx, UPS or elsewhere, seems really discriminatory, shortsighted, and illegal from an "equal opportunity" stand point? Has anybody ever tried to challenge this in court?

If you were in HR or flight management who would you rather hire? Someone that knows/has flown with an applicant and can voche for them or...a complete stranger?

It's not just the airline industry, it's in almost EVERY industry and corporate america. You just have to network as much as possible and always be on point ready to meet someone. It's easy for the military folks and hard for corporate pilots, but not impossible...I made it:beer:

Please....Somebody end the madness... I bet i know the answer to question #6...
2 year degree, fun on overnights....please....

A 4 year degree is not required. It is highly reccommended. You will not get an interview without an internal rec. Just announced, 500 new hires by the end of May. You do the math. CLE - eveyone lives there or within a short (< 2hrs) drive. New bid just came out Friday and TONS of movement.

Good luck

Someone told me at UPS, that the internal req also hast to be someone you have flown with in a crew environment?

So your buddies with your nieghbor who is a UPSer, and your qualified for the job, but he cant send your stuff in if you havnt flown together.

Not only do you have to be fun on overnights, but you also have to make nice landings or you dont get reccomended.

Yes, indeed end the maddness!

I wish I had gone in the Air force to get that F-15 slot, I would be well qualified for FedEx, without the internal req.

Good luck everybody who dont have a friend.

Networking is the same in aviation as it is in any career field. If you don't have connections go out and find them. Folks are always willing to talk with you about their career and company. Flying with someone can be different than being neighbors, some guys leadership/personalities change in the airplane so having a referral from someone who has flown with you or jumpseated is a fair characteristic to seek. Just because you can drink beer and are neighbors doesn't mean you are great to work with on the flightdeck. I don't think the company is as interested in your landing abilites as they are on how well you work together with fellow co-workers. There is a big difference there.

For that F-15 slot, you can visit www.af.mil to point you in the right direction or call your local recruiter to get an OTS slot. Oh, and by the way, I flew F-15's and still need an internal rec for FedEx. Go figure, the process is the same for everyone...so stop whining and make it happen if you want it.

No whining here, just pointing out the obvious. Maybe its the F-18 guys there interested in over at FedEx, I wasnt paying that much attention to the BS that was being laid out in front of me.

The fact is, I fly 747's around the world in demanding conditions, but Im not qualified to service the LAV at UPS or FEDEx becuase of certian demagraghics.

If im destined to just go so far in the industry, so beit, but dont try to reason away the obvious, or kid yourselves. At least give us that.

Besides, I am about 4-5 years too old to fly the really pointy airplanes with grey paint.

I'm sorry bro, I'm not going to give you anything. I work my a$$ off at flying fighters in the military, just as I'm sure you work hard flying the 747...no one is better, no one is worse, just different. For me to get hired at FedEx is just as hard as anyone else, civilian or not. I do happen to know 2 FedEx pilots through the military, however I've met many civilians who have met plenty of FedEx pilots through commuters, charters, etc...If you're going to b!tch about military dudes, then walk the walk as well. If you want to complain about not flying F-15's, PM me and I'll be more than glad to help you get some point of contacts to help you start the process of going to AF UPT. If you're too old now, I'm sorry...but don't start slinging BS around because of some grudge against one hornet guy you happened to hear talking smack one night. Give me a break, your BS about mil guys having a particular in is ricockulous.

You know what the bad thing about getting in a dispute over the intenet is, I could be a little high school student that dont have a clue.

But believe me, no one has "given" me nothing. I dont know your backround, other than you went to college and you fly airplanes that that went really fast, heck, you could be a flightsim wonder yankin and bankin from the comfort of your logitech. First off, I dont have a beef with military pilots, I grew up around it, lived on many military installations. You need to reread my posts, never did I come down on the military.

I can only tell you from my own experiences, so if you have some evidence that can show me otherwise, Im all for it. Maybe there are a bunch of us that need enlightment.

Yes, im to old to fly the miltary, thanks for the offer though.
