nah, don't look. It's just freakin' depressing, just like any other RJ operator out there. Try to hold onto the excitement of being an airline pilot at least till you're out of class and get a look at your first "on the line" paycheck. The excitement fades awfully fast, ya might as well enjoy it while it lasts...

Also, here's your new mantra... might as well practice it along with flows and calls:

"It will get better. I'm paying my dues."
"It will get better. I'm paying my dues."
"It will get better. I'm paying my dues."

Sooner or later the fallacy of this will become apparent, but again, enjoy it for as long as possible.

What a freakin' joke of a career we all have.

Welcome to XJet!
:D

Better than flight instructing, no?

Go work in a cubicle, dude. The money is great and they remove your brain on the first day.... Did it for five years, it sucked!!

I'd rather do this any day.... You have no idea what life is like on the other side, my friend...

Of course, neither do I : ) I am coming from the corporate side. I just know I dont want to sit in a cubicle again. Did you think "office space" was a joke? Maybe someday I can fill you in on the finer points of shooting a rubber band.... No, I am not kidding.... You'd be surpised how good you get at it in 6 months or so...

Cheers!

LOL, ya, I know, I'm bitter!

That post WAS mostly toungue in cheek, but I guess it really didn't come out that way. My fault. No, working here really isn't that bad, but it's got a LONG way to go to be a real career. With the way the rest of the industry is going, I'm not really holding my breath!

Better than a cubicle? Probably. You are right, I don't have any experience with that. But I'll tell ya this, I worked roofing cleanup in college, a job a monkey could do, and made literally twice what I'm making as a 5th year fo. Sure, I busted my butt, but I was outside, sun on my back, fresh air, saw my home and my girfriend every night, no disgruntled pax to deal with, never really worried someone would try to slit my throat and take over my wheelbarrel etc....

Better than flight instructing? Guess it depends. My last 2 years instructing, I ALSO made more than I do as a 5th year FO, but then, I was doing mostly competition acro instructing and warbird insurance checkouts. Little better money in that stuff.

Shooting a rubber band eh? I might take you up on that... a new commuting sport!
:D

Absolutely agreed on the compensation. I will do my best to tow the line if the need arises.... Hopefully the company will soon agree to a fair wage.

"I was doing mostly competition acro instructing and warbird"

Are you sure we didn't fly together. I was teaching in an S-2B in florida. Now I am flying a stearman (paying for that one though).

Sad but true

This sounds like the end of Office Space! Now for the REALLY DEPRESSING NEWS:

I found out today that a few mgrs at the McDonalds in my area make upwards of 60 to almost $80K. YES THAT'S RIGHT. One of my friends from my church just got hired as a mgr. He starts off at $35-40K. If he finishes up his college degree, and his restaurant finishes in the top XX% of restuarants in the area and remains there he will be in that 60,000 salaray range. And I currently live in a SMALL *SS town in Louisiana. The owners of the franchise in this area are very generous with the employees who apply themselves and strive to make it more than what it is. Apparently they hand out FAT bonus checks too at the end of the year. While I'm happy for him and his potential...this ****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****ing depresses me! He'll make more as a Mgr at McDs than I will if/when I ever make it to a captains position with ANY regional! And given the state of the industry, maybe a mainline spot will be available by the time I'm 50. Talk about a sad realization!

i can't relate to the regional world but i can to the office space and mcdonald's worlds.

after sitting at a desk for 9 years i can tell you the best way to shoot a rubber band is to make the pistol configuration with your hand where your index finger is pointed straight and your thumb is in the air. when you put the rubber band around your thumb and stretch it to you finger make sure one side is much tauter than the other so that when it is released it spins through the air. of course this utilizes some flying principles and the flight path will have a slight curve to it.

for mcdonald's, ask your buddy in a couple of years how he's enjoying working 60+ hours a week dealing with pimply faced employees who only want a check and irate customers who can't stand their fries less than perfect. the $60k range sounds like the airline promise, just change the scenario. IF finish degree, IF restaurant finishes in top %, now replace with IF you go to a flight academy, IF you get an interview and on and on....

just my two cents from somebody that has his head in the clouds but his butt at a desk, for now anyway.

I prefer the two-handed method of shooting a rubber band. One finger straight out and pull back with the opposite hand. Making sure, as you said, to keep one side very taut so it spins. You can easily cause a welt on someone that way : )

I used to hit Christmas ornaments from about 15 feet away. (The christmas tree was on top of the filing cabinet 6 months of the year) That was fun until I hit my supervisor in the head...

A truely mind-numbing experience.... I could go on for hours about the things I've seen. Like the guy sitting next to me who used to rip out nose hair to try and stay awake....

Uhhh... replace "fries" with "flight", and you've just described your hopeful future job!

:D
