House, Senate OK $3B In Airline Aid
Tara Murphy, 04.04.03, 10:00 AM ET
NEW YORK - Making headlines this morning, the U.S. Congress voted in favor of more than $3 billion in aid for the airline industry, as it faces more losses due to the war in Iraq.
The House and Senate approved the aid as part of separate legislative proposals for Iraq war spending. The will reconcile the difference in spending, $3.2 billion and $3.5 billion respectively, next week. The Bush Administration, which views the aid plans excessive, wants to see more cost cutting and reorganizing from the airlines, rather than financial aid from the government.
