I was wondering how you commuting pilots park at your home airport when commuting to another base. I have friends that park at a nearby hotel, just leave their car, and grab the free shuttle. Others ride the public bus or have the wife drop them off.

Does anyone out there have a funny story or a creative way of doing it? I may be in a commuting position soon and I am trying to keep my car out of the impound lot as much as I can but not pay $10 a day for the park and ride (but I will if I have to). I also heard that some regionals will give pilots discounted parking at other airports. Is that true? If so, which ones?

Thanks!

I park at the layover hotel in the city I commute from. It's covered and only costs $2 each time I park (tips for the van drivers). Been doing it for about five years now and haven't had any problems. Just takes a little planning to make sure I get there early enough to catch a shuttle to the airport so I can make my commuter flight in time. This particluar hotel has a set van schedule. Before that, I used the employee commuter parking lot at the airport, but it's gone up in price so much that it isn't very cost effective for me, especially since I only fly one or two trips per month now. Good luck, and happy commuting.

Eagle will pay for your parking if you don't park at your base. ( up to how much it cost them for inbase parking. In my case 25 a month.) Check with the local station manager, and they can send you in the direction for getting a parking pass were live.

I know some guys that have worked out a deal at the FBO to park there.

There is a CAR MAX that does auto sales and maintenance near an airport I use;it has a 24 hour shuttle as long as you do service(inclusive of car washes and details) MY SCAM: Wiper blades-Week 1; Oil change-Week 2;Tire rotation-Week 3(Only service items for $15.99 or less) etc.,etc.,etc....
the superior pilot uses his superior judgment to prevent having to use his superio skills

At my company they will foot the bill for whatever the rate is at the base. if you commute, then they will pay your parking at the commuter airport up to what it woulda cost in base and then reimburse me. Check if your company has this policy!

Ditto amcnd and cargoflyer69, Trans States will pay for employee parking at the airport your commuting from instead of your base as long as it doesn't cost more than base parking. At my crackhouse in St. Louis, I ride EZPark then walk about 4 blocks.

Not sure about XJET but I will be commuting ATL-EWR. I will park behind virginia crossings by the DL GO and walk to the Hilton and take the shuttle to the airport. A lot of pilots do that and tip the driver. They don't mind since they make extra cash of the guys so it seems to be a mutual thing.

Try this scam. I had my buddy who is based in my home town get an extra parking pass. He went to the parking office and cklaimed he lost his. I paid the fee for him and in turn he listed both his car and my on the pass - they accept more than one car. Deal is here there are 100's of cars parked and they never audit the lot - alos there are no parking gates, just a mirror hanger pass so it works. Of course they would never accpet more than one of his listed cars in the lot a t a time but there's no audit! 3 years and cou nting.

I pay $15 per month for LAX lot B parking, and $20 a month for ONT parking. Both are open to the general public as "long-term" parking, and are lots run by the airport (LAWA), but airline employees get a good discount.
